If you are a poor college kid, a lid is a good bang for the buck. $80-100 for 10rwhp.
Just remember a lid is a lid, so really not one better than the other. Look for fitment. Alot of people don't like SLPs fitment for example. Filter wise, I doubt you'd see much of a gain with a K&N. Alot of people dont like to clean/oil or they overoil. Usually stick with paper, and just change regularly.
Do all of the free mods (They go in the every little bit helps category, and you not having money, they will seem better )
Don't touch the MAF, atleast not yet. There are plenty of posts about good / bad of getting a new one/descreening etc. I dstay away from questionable mods like that until you have money to fix a screw up (aka, screwing up if you descreen yourself)
You could always get rid of your cats / gut them, or get ORY pipe and cutout. Just because tons of people on here spend alot for True Duels / Catback, you can always get a cutout and save money.

What is your budget? Free/cheap mods like a lid, cutout, FRA, TB bypass, porting your own throttle body, Fernco mod, gutting the cats, and pulling some weight can make as much as a three or four tenth difference at the track.

Whats the largest shot a stock ls1 could handle without worrying about hurting the engine? 50(Im conservative and wouldnt risk even the slightest chance of throwing a rod)?
Also Ive heard nitrous must be used at wide open throttle...how does that work on manual cars?

Guys easily run 100 shot.
Nitrous must be run at WOT so its safest. You get a window switch so it only engages at certain rpm, etc.

Great sticky on nitrous. Probably answer all of the questions you have, and then some.
