hi guys and gals just picked up an awesome car, and was just looking over everything in the engine compartment and saw the piping from the EGR. Theres a rubber tube if u trace it all the way that wraps to the back of the compartment then goes to the other exhaust manifold, but before this splits in a T direction going to some kind of motorized air injection looking thing. ummm car might be a california car, and was curious if cali did any wierd stuff? thanks a bunch.

I dont have a 98 but I think the piping you are talking about is in fact air injection from the air pump. The air pump is the motor you see. It is not the egr. The egr takes in exhaust from the manifold through the egr valve while the air injects fresh air into the exhaust.

Note, the air injection only works after startup for a short time and cuts off. Its not a smog pump that runs all of the time.

thats the AIR system. its on all f-bodies i think 98-02. EGR was only 98-00 btw.

Thanks but can one run headers that get rid of the EGR/AIR system. I know of off road headers and was curious if it gets rid of any of these components thanks a bunch.
