I recently made a thread and was interested in getting my associates in CAD...but im now considering getting a degree in EE. I dont want to be limited on what I can do by just being a draftsman...

Just wondering how hard were the classes in college? What occupation do u currently have and what opportunites can u have with the degree?

Well I can't speak from the experience of having a EE job as I just switched majors from EE to Geoscience, but I can tell you the classes are hard as hell once you hit the junior level stuff, especially ENA, Digital Circuits, Dig. Design exc. Prepare to have no life for the last two (usually three) years of college. The tests are the hardest I have ever taken in any subject, and the teachers/TA's don't curve (UT Dallas), so the average grade is in the 30's to 40's on most tests.

Not trying to scare you away here, just letting you know what's ahead. The first two years of math/science are just preparation for the later EE classes, and if you can't cut it in them, there's no way you will make it later on. If you like digital stuff and have a knack for math and science, I say go for it.

I remember college. Some of it anyway. The suck
starts in about sophomore year with two long-hair
calculus classes per semester, rolling into electrical /
magnetics / {optional semiconductor physics} that
put it to work and demand more of the same. If it
weren't for the curve (Michigan, early '80s) I would
have pulled down solid "D"s but escaped with a B
average and enough buzzwords to get the job I
wanted, which is designing ICs.

Having been an electronics hobbyist since about
the age of 10, and working electronics technician
jobs made the actual circuit oriented, lab oriented
classes much easier. But the math, that sucked.
Especially 9AM math.

After all that grinding, you may get an engineering
job you love, or you may get an engineering job you
despise, and have to take up a hobby just to get
your technoJones in check. Many who start off as
engineers drift in other directions shortly - business,
marketing, whatever. It's an education you can use
but if you're being used for crap you don't enjoy,
well....

I finished my EE Classes in 2002. And like the others said the math and electronics can get hard. But it's like anything else u just have to apply yourself. Math and electronics theory go hand in hand. If you can gasp either one, you have a hold on the other. There is alot of demand for techies and engineers, and the pay is pretty good also. I like my job ( an electronic engineer @ a radiation detection plant) but Its boring as hell and very stressful. One thing for sure is I hope UR ready for "corprate america"! :eyes:
