what is the best way to smooth out a stock intake to paint it

I sanded off the casting marks with 80 grit, then used 180 on all of the tubes. I then sprayed it with high build primer,
sanded it with around 300 until it was really smooth, then sprayed it with a black poly primer with a hardener.
Wet sanded that with 600, then sprayed 2 coats of basecoat, then 3 of clear. I like how it turned out..
You dont need to do the black poly primer i think, but the store i bought it from said it was more heat resistant.
