Default I must finish my flash back a note to the younger generation (long post)

TO THE SPOILED BRATS OF TODAY...

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with
their tedious diatribes about how hard things were
when they were growing up; what with walking
twenty-five miles to school every morning... uphill
BOTH ways.. through year 'round blizzards...carrying
their younger siblings on their backs... to their
one-room schoolhouse, where they maintained a
Straight-A average despite their full-time,
after-school job at the local textile mill... where
they worked for 35 cents an hour just to help keep
their family from starving to death!

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up,
there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of
crap like that on kids ...about how hard I had it and
how easy they've got it...

But....

Now that I'm over the ripe old age of thirty+, I can't
help but look around and notice the youth of today.
They've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my
childhood, they live in a damn Utopia!

I hate to say it, but kids today don't know how good
they've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have computers, let
alone "The Internet." If we wanted to know something,
we had to go to the damn library and look it up
ourselves in the card catalog!!

There was no e-mail! We had to actually write
somebody a letter...with a pen! Then you had to walk
all the way across the street and put it in the
mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were no MP3s or Napsters! You wanted to steal
music, you had to go to the damn record store and
shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait around all
day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk
over the beginning and f@#* it all up!

You want to hear about hardship? You couldn't just
download ****! You had to bribe some homeless dude to
buy you a copy of "Hustler" at the 7-11! Those were
your options!

We didn't have fancy **** like Call Waiting! If you
were on the phone and somebody else called they got a
busy signal! And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes
either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it
was!... It could be your boss, your mom, a
collections agent, your drug dealer, you didn't
know!!! You just had to pick it up and take your
chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Play station video games
with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari
2600! With games like "Space Invaders" and
"Asteroids" and the graphics sucked ***! Your guy was
a little square! You had to use your imagination!
And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was
just one screen forever! And you could never win, the
game just kept getting harder and faster until you
died! Just like LIFE!!!!!!

When you went to the movie theater there was no such
thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same
height! If a tall guy sat in front of you and you
couldn't see, you were just plain screwed!

Today they have HDTV with hundreds of stations. We had
something called VHF and got about 6 channels, tops.
That's if the antenna on the roof didn't get blown off
by a tornado! There was no onscreen menu and no
remote control! You had to use a little book called a
TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed
when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off
your *** and walk over to the TV to change the
channel! And there was no Cartoon Network! You could
only get cartoons on Saturday Morning ... D'ya hear
what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK, you
spoiled little bastards!

We didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat
something up, we had to use the stove! Imagine that!
If we wanted popcorn we had to use that stupid Jiffy
Pop and shake it over the stove like an idiot forever.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today
have got it too easy. You're spoiled!!! You punks
wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1975!!!

(Damn, that felt good! Now I know why my parents
nagged me relentlessly with crap like that!)

I'm half awake exhausted after work lol I was ranting about some other stuff having to do with kids now that I read my post lol. I'm a "young" 24 but I remember when we didn't have cable and all we could do was "click" the channel changer and rotate the antenna on the roof none of this remote control stuff. Being amazed by a computer. And it's just shocking to see the advances in just the past decade even. I remember the old atari's and have an 8 track player sitting up in the attic. First computer i had was an old commodore 64. Hehe and growing up in the internet age I remember when we didn't have graphics based internet. It was all text so even when you were on playboy.com you couldn't look at the picture until you downloaded it and after 10 minutes could finally look at it. Not being able to download a full **** movie in half that time now. (not that I'd know)

I wonder what I'll be ranting to kids about in 20 years... "Back in my day we had wheels on our cars, and they ran on gas"

Pretty cool stuff.....I like the remember when game.

I can remember when Harry Truman was Pres and can remember
when we were all scared to death the Japaneese were going to
invade the Pacific Northwest.
Remember when gas was 19 cents a gallon and rich people made
500 bucks a month.
I better quit while I'm ahead, this is making me feel pretty old.....

I am sorry, but besides the Internet and Microwaves, I don't see most of that stuff making life easier. MP3, e-mail, PS2/Xbox/Internet ****, doesn't make life easier. It just makes it different.

Talk about easier, look at what your parents paid for their house, look why you paid for a house, then look at what I will have to pay for a House. You think I have it easier??? To get into a good college is harder then ever, it is taking longer to complete college (more debt). Where you scared about being shot at school? Did your school have gangs? Did your parents even CONSIDER being shot at school?

Sorry, I just don't buy into it...

I am 34 and I still have an antenae on the roof for emergencies when comcast goes out, and I get 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13 pretty good too. I still have my Atari 2600 in the garage too. I keep it mostly for the star wars games, not that I ever play them, but I do have them should I ever want to.

I graduated in '89 so yes, my school did have gangs, guns and knives. (switch blades and brass knuckles too come to think of it.) And that was at Juanita, you remember, the school all the other schools in the state hated to play in sports because we kicked everyone's a$$. That's right, you know all those state championship banners hanging in the gym? You're Welcome.

And I did have to spend hours in the library on a research paper or three.

College? don't even go there. I couldn't get into the UW because I was white with a 3.69 gpa. That's right. All of my black, hispanic, asian, or indian friends / relatives with lower gpa's than mine got in but not me. Oh sure, now I could get in because I went to a 2 year community college and Iowa State University to study Aerospace Engineering.

Easy I tell ya.

First, I gotta say you completely missed the point of this JOKE. Re-read the first few lines about how adults exagerate their hardships ... now carry that thought into reading it. Ummm, hello,
"There were no MP3s or Napsters! You wanted to steal
music, you had to go to the damn record store and
shoplift it yourself
! Or you had to wait around all
day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk

As for the rest, yeah, we just bought a house last year. It cost almost $100,000 more than the house my parents bought when I was a kid. I had to worry about being shot or stabbed at school by wanna-be gangs who were trying to prove they were like "Boyz In the Hood". I have a distince memory of having a confrontation with some guys on "The Ave" (cruising) before they closed it, and those same guys being layed out on the sidewalk a block down and headed our way about 20 mins later by the cop ... guns and all. I also spent a couple of my early teen years living in central California where there were REAL gangs, before Washington state knew what that was. There were constantly murders in the park around the corner.

Take it for the joke it is man. You don't remember any of this so can't really appreciate the humor, but consider it a poke at us "old folk" (By the way, I am less than 30 lol)

All in the Family....

And Josh, I still have my detachable VCR for recording with the camera (don't have the camera any more though).

And my dad had the top load VCR with the wired remote too. I think I even tripped over that cord a couple of times too.
