The oil i use is Mobil 1 5w-30 Full Synthetic, with a K&N Oil Filter. For mods start off with a Lid something like SLP, MTI, etc. If you want a cool lid get the clear one from MTI from pictures i have seen it looks real good. Exhaust system i had an SLP Loudmouth Version1. It came with the car and if i had to do it all over thats the exhaust i would have picked for my car because they sound real good and you can always swap a dynomax bullet or sweet thunder muffler in place of the resonator. Congrats on the new car, take care of it and enjoy the power.

Cool Congrads!! I have a 98 as well!! I would get the lid first, or atleast do the free mods and an exhaust. they all helped me out little by little performance wise. You'll love your car, cause they sure are alot of fun!!!

Congrats on the TA !! You will love it. Stock they will typically run anywhere from high 12s to mid 13s roughly. Start with some basic performance stuff a new airlid and filter are a good start. Also should look into at least a catback and some headers or maybe just an electric cutout. You will definetly want to get some subframe connectors to keep those subframes in good condition! But definetely read through some of the stickies and prowl around ls1tech for a while before making any major decisions and educate yourself about the LS1 vehicles before making any purchases so you don't waste your money. Again congratulations and welcome to LS1Tech!

Congrats!!! You're going to fall in love with your car. Read up on some of the articles around here and you'll be fine. Also the "Search" button is your friend. I rarely post questions because of it. Good luck with Mods.

Oil- is a much debated topic here. Most guys run either Mobil 1 or German Castrol.
The Castrol is hard to find now but, some manage. For more info. look up post's by Patman, this guy knows a lot about oil.

Trans oil- I use Royal Purple but, I don't know what everyone else uses. I'm sure they'll chime in.

Congrats on the purchase! I just got mine a few months ago and I'm lovin it If you have the money, here is what I would get:

Stall (4,000 if you are highly performance oriented)
full exhaust
g5x3 cam
Nitrous
- these goodies should get you 10's

Oh and oil? Royal Purple!

Hmm, I doubt it, with those mods (I assume you'll have intake in there somewhere) you will then need a new rear-end, you will break it if you try to get all you can out of a g5x3 w/nitrous. You'll need suspension to keep it straight, a tune, a fuel system to keep up with the nitrous, a built 4l60e or better tranny (you will break it sooner or later with that much power) So basically that doubled the price of what you were going to spend. Don't you hate how that happens

Grats on your new ride bro. First of all if you have 2.73 gears you may be a tad slower then if you have 3.23 gears. But the difference won't be very much (if your curious look at the RPO codes on the white sticker that's located on the inside of your drivers door. GU2 = 2.73 and GU5 = 3.23). You should be good for about 13.7 @ 102. You may be a tad faster or even slower depending on which gears you have, track elevation, weather, launching ability, ect.

As far as what to buy, First things first. Lid and catback. The lid is a cheap 10 rwhp and the catback because these cars are NOT loud enough stock. Plus catbacks are good for another 5-8 rwhp.

Now that your car is breathing better and sounding better you'll want a torque converter and tranny cooler. 3000 stall minimum, 4000 stall maximum but I recommend a 3500 stall with a 2.2 or maybe even 2.5 STR. That will knock half a second off your 1/4 mile track times, get rid of the 30-45 mph dead spot and make the automatic a whole lot more fun to drive.

As for the rest of the mods you may or may not want just read stickys, do searches and don't be afraid to ask questions when the first two don't answer them. But bare minimum I think every A4 LS1 should have lid, catback and stall.

Good Luck and Grats on the new ride!

Oh and I have no clue what oil/tranny fluid is best. I just pay jiffy lube to change my oil and tranny fluid and I leave it up to them. For a bolt-on car I doubt it makes alot of difference as long as the fluids are kept fresh. But make sure you buy good gas. I use 93 octane and recommend no less then 91 for these cars.

Get some amsoil 5w30 for engine oil. No idea on tranny fluid, you could search and find out probably.

Oh God help you!! Just take all your money and put all the power in it at one time! JK!! Ya, I would start out with the suspension or intake system, then move on to motor or tc or gears. Believe me, when you start doing this, there is no turning back! It is a bad addiction!!

Default Leave it alone

Unless you have alot of money to spend on the thing, just drive it as is. Being a 98, and if you're not sure how it was driven before you got it, you may sling a rod at anytime. Yep, they're alot of fun, and alot of money. And if nothin else, make sure you keep an eye on your oil. Ok, ok, just read the threads above mine. those are good starts. and that's not really cheap. And oh,I forgot, keep an eye on the oil. change the hell out of it.

Do all the basic bolt on's then if you have the money, do the bigger mods.

I ran 13.89 @ 104 with a lid and free ram air mod using a LoudMouth II exhaust on an A4. I was only two car lengths behind a beasty Monte Carlo when we trapped (test & tune night). Felt good to stay close with him after hearing his car at WOT.

With better traction you could probably launch with a good 60' time and hit mid 13's. I didn't punch it from go. Second run with full throttle on the light, I hit 14.1 @ 103, because I spun the tires. These were my first two runs ever, though. I didn't want to break anything or eat up my street tire treads for little benifit with burn-outs. So account for newby driving skills when factoring my times, considering I had no idea how to launch the car. Since you have an A4, the shifting skills don't really apply. It's pretty much push and go.

Expect high 13's/low 14's in 80-90 degree weather running stock with your A4.

Full bolt-ons and a torque converter should get me 12's and I'll be happy.

Have fun with your new beast man.

Congrats, modding should start with a new air lid. Followed by exhaust and maybe a stall.
