I currently have a 90mm TB, 3.73 gears, QTP LT's with Dual Cutouts, shift kit, and stock TC. I want to put in a TR224 114. I have been a member for a while and have read all about cams. I think that this is the best for me. I killed two trannies on my Formula with TC's and will not put in another one. (my extended warranty company would catch on). Is this cam too big for the stock TC. I just want to make sure before I buy it since the wife is pregnant and she said I could do one more thing to the car before the baby is born so I will only get one shot at this.

Well its best to replace the converter on a stock car...let a lone a cammed one. I am sure you will be fine, but to get the most out of the cam you will need a new converter. The 224 is an awesome cam, I mean you cant go wrong with it. Its an excellant choice

Yeah I loved the 3500 stall I had on my Formula without a cam. I just don't have the money right now to put into it and I already got an earfull when I blew out the last two Trannys. I would end up with a divorce if I blew another one. I had to get her pregnant just to get the cam.LOL I guess it was a fair trade!
Maybe in about 5 years I'll get the stall. I have already put about 7K too much into the car as it is, I can't afford to keep buying my wife diamonds.

like lithium said it would be best to go with the tc but your kinda stuck rate now as i can see just curious how did you blow to trannies and congrats on the baby

Just save up some money here and there, cause its going to be really benificial for you to get a bigger stall. The tune will help you out as well...

did you use a proper tranny cooler when you put your last TC's in? Thats the only way I could see it blowing the tranny is is you didn't get a cooler with it...

I am not going to spend the time explaining why my last two trannies blew out I already did that on different threads last year.

The only question I want to know is if this cam is too big without a stall. If enough people think it is I might look in to a smaller cam. I WILL NOT PUT IN A STALL. I have plenty of reasons. Most of them can be found here when you search for blown trannies and count how many poeple have gone through one.

What type of TC did you buy? I have had 5 different converters and have never taken out a tranny due to TC converter. Anyways...

I had the 224 cam in my car for about 2 yrs and it would not be too big for a stock converter you just wont get the most out of the cam. The car wil be a dog off of the line. You would want anywhere from a 3400-3800 stall for the pk tq range. If it were me I would go with a smaller cam, maybe the 02 LS6 cam for a stock converter. JMO

This is nothing but one guy's unscientific opinion ... but my sense of it is that a 224/3500 stall is about a perfect match. With a 3000, you might go a little smaller like a 220. With a stock stall, I'd want to go with something that stays pretty close to the stock powerband, like the 212/218 being discussed in another thread.

If I ever did look into putting in a stall I would probably go for a 2800. But once again that will be a long way away. I was looking at the 220 or the hot cam. I just want a little bit more than what I have now. With plenty of tourqe down low, and a nice lope at a low idle, since when I do drive it it is mostly around town. I would love another TC but I just can't take that chance right now. It's too risky.

Plus I do have the 3.73's and that does help out a lot.
