Default a buddy toasted his car on N20 today

at the track today(i was not there i had to work) a buddy of mine borrowed my bottle to use (his was empty) he is spraying a 150shot wet on a 99 vette and he launched the car and right after he clicked her into second, BOOM!!! had a nitrous backfire in the intake and it wasted everything after the maf! he said it shattered the plastic peice going into the maf into like a million pieces and it messed up his hood!!! i will know more in the next few days but his car wont run for more then 3 seconds and my other friend says it sounds like a rod is knocking inside the engine needless to say it had to be towed back home=(

oh well i will keep you guys posted, poor vette =( glad it did not happen to my car(i let my friend race it today at the track too, but he did not get a good spray run in cause the window switch f'ed up)

Yea, that's our worst nightmare coming true, toasting our engines on the spray. keep us updated, and pics if ya got them. It didn't blow the intake?

i am not entirly sure...i have not seen it yet, but i asked if his intake manifold was ok and my buddy said he thought it was....it was everything by the maf that was destroyed...and i guess it cracked or bent or messed up the hood.... I guess the anouncer was yelling at him to shut his car off after the huge BOOM!

Ditto.

I'm not yet finished with my wet kit install. Never sprayed before. Never even been in a sprayed car.

I'm skeered.

well i can tell you from my beginner nitrous days dont ever ever spray nitrous and fuel into a motor that is shut off...had a wiring issue, went to turn my car on and blew the plastic intake and air hat into a million pieces.

the problem could be something simple. The knockng noise bothers me. But it could be a messed up MAF sensor or vacume/intake leak from the back fire.

ok i talked to my buddy today...and he had just gotten back from driving his vette! so i guess his ls6 intake manifold busted pretty good, so he got another and his engine is fine. just a nitrous backfire the damged pretty much his entire intake system. He said he would get me pictures soon, so when i get them i will show you guys. atleast his car is ok =)

Damn! I'd say he was very fortunate in not hurting his motor.

Ummm so what was the cause of this? We still didn't get that far.

How much was it jetted for? Wet/dry? Was he using a window switch? What RPM did he turn it on at?

If we can't learn anything from this than this thread is meaningless!

this is him in his vette on a 100 shot smoking a sti

I missed that, sorry. Just doesn't make sense. You would assume if he was already in 2nd it had enought rpms. Maybe it blipped the limiter real quick and thats all it took.
