Had a blast! If you've never autox'd before, DO IT!! It's really the most fun I've ever had in a car!
What do you guys think of the gold? I thought it was weird at first but I love it now. I have a set of chrome Z07's waiting to be installed after my new tires come in next week.

Did ok for my class, I'm in SM, which is Street Modified, some of the stoutest cars there are in that class and I'm a novice. I would have had 3rd in my class but I clipped 1 cone in the slalom, there's always next time. This was my 3rd autox. You really have no idea what your car can do until you do this, it's nothing like drag racing. Even though you don't get over 50mph its much more intense and relies more on driver skill than the car. Hell a friggin stock Escort was running the same times as I was! My high HP actually is harder to work around, next is a set of Koni's and race tires. That will wait until next March though, we're almost done racing this year.

I'm afraid to go auto-x'ing. Well, more precisely, paranoid about the stresses it puts on the chassis, even with my SLP SFCs welded in. I really don't want a cage in my interior - obtrusive and ugly as sin. It just sucks that there are no road courses to run anywhere around here.
I'm not usually a fan of Z06's on T/A's, but they work with your car. What suspension set up do you have? (how much drop, etc) And what size wheels/tires (width)?
The thought of getting a Solstice for auto-x is rather tempting.

Naaah you'll be fine, just try it. It's not wearing out your clutch and rear end like drag..mods in sig, best things I did for the car were the front and rear swaybars, shocks, and springs, actually the SFC's made a big difference also. Just try it once, you'll be hooked!
I believe the Hotchkis springs are around a 1" drop, but I wasn't doing it for looks, Strano rec'd these springs since I didn't want to go with a Ground Control kit. Wheels and tires are 275/40 all the way around but I have a set of Michelin Pilot Sports on the way, 285/35 rear and 275/40 front, should be on next week with the new wheels.

Oh man, what are your spring rates? You could probably really surprise yourself with your car. I bet you'd do well. I'd really like to go with a GC kit so I can specify spring rates, but I don't need the ride height adjustment. Go give it a shot, seriously, I have been drag racing cars and bikes for maybe 5 years but this is the most fun I've ever had in a car! I'm a newb, you aren't really much good when you start out, but it's fun to learn how your car can really handle when it needs to.
and thanks for the comment! It's the only gold one like this I've seen, 235 gold TA's were made.

I like the Gold. It'll look fanastic with the chromed wheels.
My friend Warren likes to AutoX his '78 Trans Am. The last time he did it at the 9th Annual National F-Body Motorsports Event in Indy (the pics below), I lent him my helmet. I'm strictly a straightline guy, but I enjoy watching others when they're autocrossing.

I like the gold. It's also nice to see a fellow AutoXer on this board. You're right about getting hooked. Until the storm hit, I AutoXed every month since my first time.
For the past year I had been autoXing a 2005 Scion tC. One of my local region members drives a 2000 Trans Am WS6. Everyones jaws drop when he's on the track. He's a great driver and the car sounds mean (and loud) as hell. So when my tC got totalled by Katrina, I decided to get a Trans Am. I'll be AutoXing it for the first time on November 5th. My new set of 245/45/16 Kumho Victoracers just came in today and I'll be installing my Torsen T2R this weekend.
The reason I bought a Trans Am...
And just for fun, my old car:
Always remember, the most important things in Autocrossing are
#1 The driver
#2 Your tires

Very true, unfortunately for my track times, all the money I spent on mods didn't matter too much, it's mostly driver skill. Hell a stock escort was running the same times I was, but ofcourse that was with a well seasoned driver. practice practice practice...
Between that Torsen and your R compound tires you'll blow some folks away. I plan to get R tires next season.
