Default top dead center question

i have a ati superdamper with the 360 degree markings. do i get piston number 1 to top dead center and put the ati damper with the "0" straight up?
any tricks to get top dead center on that piston with the heads on? once i get number one piston to top dead center, how many degrees do i spin the crank for the next piston in the firing order to get it at top dead center?

ls1howto.com They explain it in the cam install section. Turn the crank pully 45 degrees for each rotation. 2 pistons are TDC at once. You can also stick something in the spark plug hole to determine when the piston is TDC.

All depends on how you want to set it. Make sure you read the instructions on honing and measuring the hub and the crankshaft, they have to have a very specific interference fit. Did you get the pin kit? Great time to do it since the hub is already keyed.

I slide a zip tie into the spark plug hole and role the motor over till I feel the piston come up. You could also use a piece of coat hanger if you need more "feel". Repeat on each cylinder doing 2 cylinders at a time. The guide on LS1how to tells you which will be at TDC at the same time.
