Default What's the best thing to do with the PCV system on a drag car?

I've been searching around and was wondering what would be the best thing to do with the system. I have a 2000 SS with the stock system and a AMW catchcan.

If you don't want to pump it you could put a evac in the header.

I'm not following what either one of you are talking about. Please explain.

The only thing I've found browsing through the sponsors site is the conversion kit from stock LS1 PCV system to LS6. Then adding a Metco breather.

I removed my AIR system and was thinking about using my AIR pump for this but haven't found anyone using anything but a crank driven evac so I don't know how i well it would work.

I've been suggested to put a breather on the filler cap and on the opening of the driver's side valvecover (in the back) and completely get rid of the PCV system. Is that ok? The other suggestion would be to put a vaccum on the system, but I wound't know where to begin or set it up.

Ok I'm confused and unsure on what to do. There's a few people saying that they ditched the system completely and put a breather on both valvecovers, then others say that really doesn't pull the fumes from the crankcase and to use some kind of vacume. Another option was to do a drysump system. Well...for those who don't have big bucks to spend on a drysump system, what would be the next best alternative. I'd like to pick up some power in this area even if its just a few, have good venilation, and get the fumes out. What do you suggest?

Jeramy,

the breathers allow crankcase pressure to vent out of the engine. This results in better ring seal which equals horsepower.

A vacume pump goes one step further. It actually pulls a vacume (Pressure less than 14.7 PSI - AKA: Atmospheric pressure) inside the crankcase. This means even MORE horsepower.

I would recommend going to a motor plate and a vacume pump. Not only will you find some HP with your current combination, it will be worth some significant power once you put a big stroker engine in.

I picked up around 15rwhp by using an Aerospace 3 vane pump. I have a CV Products relief valve set at 12.5".

and what line needs to be caped off on back of intake? i take it that i need ot keep the big one for the brake bosster. and the small vacum hose. do i just cap the line for the pvc off the back of intank?

and will this be ok for a car that is driven alot on road? reason im following this is that my car eats oil like made threw the pvc and intake. thanks for the help and sorry for all the ?'s but id like ot know

Ben R, thanks bro for the help. Makes more sense now. For now, I'm gonna hold off on the motorplate, but a vacume pump/system I'm really considering.

LOnSLO, wow, thats a nice gain. Where did you get these products? Do they have a kit with everything you need or do you have to piece this together? Was the power you picked up with this modfication only? Thanks.

I found 4 Moroso pumps, one in which is for supercharged/big cube motors on Summit and boy they're expensive. The cheapest one is $360. So that leaves me with 3 to choose from. However, its just the pump, no kits. Where can I find complete kits for our cars?

Is this mod not something that too many people do? Just wondering as I can't find any info on this nor has anyone chimed in about except one. I'd like to buy a complete kit for the car. Anyone have a lead on where I could get one?

Vacuum pumps are expensive, yet you won't see much of a gain unless you're using some low tension second and oil rings. I expect to see way more power gain with this next motor due to an extremely light ring package.
