t56 locked up in fourth on my Daily Driver!
Well, I was at the track two weeks ago, and 2 or 3 times on the return road while down shifting, the trans got stuck in 4th gear. I wiggled the shifter a bit and it came right out of fourth. Thought that was wierd. Then this weekend I was in staging lanes and with the car NOT running was practicing rowing through the gears. It felt nice and smooth, then it got stuck in fourth and locked there before I even made a pass. Had to drive home in fourth.
What is usually gets broken to cause this symptom, Ive read the
3/4 synchro key can often be the culprit. I've never rebuilt a T56 but am a very competant mechanic. And im on a tight budget so I have no choice. Whats the best avenue of approach for this problem.

thanks for the link, I saw on the D&D transmission website billet keys, and then the accompanying text. "If these break your transmission will get stuck in 3rd or 4th" lol

Exact same thing just happened to me!
Broken slider key...All the gears look perfect. I'm just going through the rebuild right now. I'm upgrading to the billet keys and a lot of other stronger parts, but here's what a broken key looks like:

Mine too here.....broke the third sync with a bad shift with only 6k on the clock and now with 30k and no miss shifts since it locked in fourth gear. This seems to be a common thing with these. Any ways to make this less apt to failure????
