Default Programming key fob

I’m attempting to program a new key fob I purchased by using the following instructions:

1) Remove radio fuse. You will need to place your key in the ignition. You might want to disconnect the key fob. Now you will need to cycle the ignition switch from OFF to RUN three times within five (5) seconds
2). On the third cycle leave the ignition in the Run position.
3). The door locks should lock, unlock and then the rear hatch release should activate.

But, I cannot get the car to go into the “program” mode after the whole cycle of switching from OFF to RUN 3 times.

What can I possibly be doing wrong? Are the directions different for a 1998 F-Body?

Are you talking about the chip in the key? If so, you are going to have to know which number chip is in your original key. I think they are between 1 and 11 or so. Then you need to purchase the blank key with that same key code, have the key cut, and you should be all set.

No, this is for the wireless key entry fob. Not the actual key.

Are you sure you are turning the key through the whole cycle each time? Also, it doesn't seem to like it if you cycle the key too fast.

it is possible that you have a bad remote, you can have them tested at most any dealership of any kind, i'd go to a GM dealership and they'll prolly test it for free hoping you might have to buy one. but if you're timing everything right and still not working i'd definitely have it tested.

But, the thing is that it's not even going into programming mode. It's suppose to lock and unlock my doors to let me know I'm in programming mode, and I haven't been able to do that.

Thanks for the help, but that didn't help either. That's program mode is apparently for programming your alarm system, locks and such....not for key fobs..

Never mine guys!! I got it to work. It looked like I was doing the whole "off to run" thing too slow. When I quickly did the whole "off to run" routine quickly 3 times it did get me into the programming mode.
