Default Close-ratio t56 in a 98Z?

I pulled my tranny and had it rebuilt but come to find out i needed a heavy duty master rebuild kit, due to the fact that i had close ratio tranny. Any body know about these types of trannys? And why it would need a heavy duty rebuild kit?

Never herd of a Heavy duty rebuild kit for any T-56. And as far as close ratio. The only ones that had different ratios were the 93-97 had 2:97,2:07,1:43,1:00,.80,.62.
98up have 2:66,1:78,1:30,1:00,.74,.50. So if you have anything different then the 98 up ratios someone has been in there before and maybe replaced some things. Call one of these guys and they can help you out with parts or information that you apparently need D&Dperformance.com or Rocklandstandardgear.com

There was also a 3.36/2.07/1.35/1.00/.80/.62 set offered in '92 only

I am pretty sure the parts can be interchanged inside.

The only 6 speed F-body in 1992 was the Firehawk and that used the ZF transmission (from the Corvette), not the Borg Warner/Tremec that we got in the various 1993-2002 cars.

I whoopsed the 3.36 is a '93 only set. Although the ZO6 has the same gear ratios , its synchro design is different than the F car 2.97 set. One could build a Z06 set into an Fcar but it would require a custom mainshaft fabrication to get the synchronizers to install.
All T56s have a close ratio gear set.
If you mean a lower ratio, the 3.36 is the tallest. If you mean a lower numerical ratio, the sets used for Viper Le Mans racing top the lot with a 2.29 set.

Tried to get mine with the different ratios between the two and I was told by Rockland that you could mix match the ratios in a cost effective manner. I don't know everything, but I am betting it is just a standard 6 spd for an F-body. The old smoke up the *** trick. But I could be wrong just a hunch.
