If you got the money to go with the 408.........I'd go that route. It will make more power and more torque. But sounds like your all ready to go with the 383! So IMO, if you don't have the money........383! If you do have the money......408

Keep your eye on the for sale forum, occasionally a deal passes through you can't refuse. That's what I plan on doing once I have the money saved up for a stroker.

I could see a budget stroker for maybe 8 grand, but I don't think 6 will get you too far, some things you just dont skimp on. You can go with eagle internals to save on costs if you're planning to stay NA, but you don't want to get a crappy set of heads, that will kill your power. It's up to you though, you could build one really cheap and make it better as money permits, but you'll pay more in the long run that way. I'ts better to just do it right the first time in my opinion. I've seen a lot of people dump money on setups and not be happy; having to start all over.

No matter what way you cut it, you pay for horsepower, period.

Just some food for thought

EDIT:

I totally forgot you already had parts. You don't have too much more to spend if you're planning on a stroker, unless you're not planning on installing and tuning yourself.

A lot of sponsors have been running 402 (LS2) and 408 (LQ9) stroker deals lately, check the GP forum. FMS is building me a 408 right now.

So do the 402s and 408s really make more power than a 383?

Go 408 iron, Texas Speed is building me one right now for under 4 grand, Eagle 4340 crank, scat rods, mahle pistons, clevite bearings & arp rod bolts. I almost did a 383 but the price diff isnt much and you get the benefit of more cubes and a helluva stronger motor. Just don't ruin it w/ an ls6 cam.

They are building you a short block for under 4 grand? Is it your block or are they providing the block? That's not a bad price........
