Default Th400 and stall/gear question...

Looking into the TH400 but ive been outta the loop on the A4s for a while...much less the A3.

Motor being my 408ci...what kinda stall/gear combo could i run to get good track times but be somewhat decent on the street. (ie keeping rpms around 3-3500 @ 65-70)

Polly will be a RMVB with a Tbrake (maybe )

right now i have 4.10s but thats no problem to change.....

suggestions?

I had been told that you would need to cruise above the "stall speed" since it slips until you get above it.

that if not....it puts alot of excess heat on the tranny....

Not true....here is a rough estimate of what my car cruises at on the highway

3600 converter 3.55 gears 28inch tall tire ---------> was around 2800-3000 rpm at 65

5500 converter 4.10 gears 28 inch tall tire ----------> around 3400-3600 at 65

What kinda ET differences did you see between the 2 stall/gear swaps?

and are you on a auto/man valve body or full manual?

and how is the looseness of the 2 stalls around town?

(sorry for all the questions )

Default switch pitch

in most torque converters the stator is fixed and you have one stall speed. with the switch pitch the stator blades change angles giving a low stall and a high stall. say 1800rpm and with a switch 2800rpm. the only problem is it is only available for the th400. fyi

I would talk to Fuddle about a converter, he helped me choose mine. I'll be putting a 3800 stall with 3:73's in my car along with my rossler TH400

Yeah what he said.
Mine is about
5300/5100 converter (had it tightened up but still drives about the same) 4.10 gears 31 inch tall tires-------> 3000 rpm at 60 mph / 3,500 rpm at 70 mph.
Driving around town is no problem at all. i drive it 90+ miles a day every day. tranny temps depend on the weather. anywhere from 160 to 200. But i'm in Texas so that 200 is on a 105 degree day.
