Turbo guys - do you use a full dish or partial dish piston??

Default Turbo guys - do you use a full dish or partial dish piston??

I am finally getting ready to order a forged rotating assembly for my 99 Z28 engine and I wanted to know if you turbo guys use a partial dish piston with a quench deck OR a full dish piston? I am looking for around an 8.5:1 to 9:1 compression ratio and trying to hit at least 600rwhp.

Also, what pistons (brand, dish, type of dish) and rod length are you guys runinng?

I am running Diamond Inverted Dome pistons. I like maintaining the quench pad. Here is a pic of mine:

I ran inverted dome JE's in my motor, when it ran last. Those same pistons are now in my truck

We're running Mahle full dish in the Kevin's car (white TT WS6)

is one kind better than the other on a turbo applications? full dish vs inverted dome

Full dish pistons will make a bit more power, and will also be much more sensitive to detonation.

I would personally never run anything other than a d-shaped dish piston that mirrored the cylinder head, as I place alot of value in squish/quench.

i'm running a 6.125 eagle rod with a 4.020 mahle pistons at -12cc and with a 72cc head and a .043 gasket its supposedly 8.6:1

I agree with INTMD8, a partial dished piston (mine are JE -14cc supercharger pistons) helps with quench, by matching the heads quench area. You want a solid 'squirt' across the chamber as you reach TDC. Helps turbulence, suppresses detonation.

This topic has recently come up on another forum and some other threads here.

My question is this? Is anyone running a pump gas daily driven ls1 with a fully dished piston (not reverse dome). I don't see how they would work well at all without the normal quench area. I was surprised when I found out that people were running them at all.

Also curious about the above statement that they can make more power. Educate me!

Awesome, looks like an inverted dome (partial dish) piston will be best for a safe tune.
