Default Torque arm Front Mounts, Slip Yoke vs Solid mounts

All this torque arm got me thinking..

What are the advantages/disadvantages of each system?

For example, the Alston unit has a front slip yoke mount that allows the torque arm to slide forward and back.. where as most others have a solid mount piece.

With the alston unit you can adjust the pinion angle and nothing will bind up as if the rear end needs to move forward or back it can.. Same with adjusting the LCA's..

So what are some of the thoughts?

Keith, I am not sure I am tracking here, as I havent seen any that are solid front mounting. I just relooked the Spohn, UMI, BMR and several others, and they all use a pivoting setup. Basically they are using a dogleg that allows the front point to move fore and aft. I can say for a solid front mount, the ride is extremely harsh, and not friendly on the driveline. Dont they all use a pivoting front?

Some use a slider like you talk about (Madman does)

Some use a "pivot" like stated above (BMR, Spohn, etc). Even the stocker is allowed to slide fore and aft inside the bushing. I would think a T/A that didn't move fore and aft would bind/break.

i have the slider as you're describinb magnus on my alston body mount TA, i actually snapped off the zerk fitting- unsure of how it happend but its no longer there..??? anyways my TA from alston makes alot of noise w/ preload of suspension and jouncing. i figure its due to the slider moving- almost like a creeking noise.

noise is the biggest disadvantage if you can live with it then do it. they are beefy as hell.
