switching from m6 to auto. th350 or th400?
Hey guys, well im tired of the crappy clutches in our cars so im going auto. I will be adding a 150 shot of giggle juice on top of what ive got now so i need one that will hold up. should i go with the 350 or the 400 and why? I have 4.11's in my car now so what will be the best stall for that combo? I will switch back to 3.73's if i have to. If anyone has the upper part of the a4 console i will be needing one, thanks. Charles

you will most likely run out of rpm's in the 1/4 if you run a 3 speed with a 4.11 gear. I have a th350 and i get close to 5000 in 3rd in the 1/8 with a 3.73 rear.

I just did this swap. Gotta tell you I love it. I used the M5 console and put a Cheetah shifter in there. It fits well. I have a built TH350 RMVB with T Brake and a 4600 stall converter. I also have a 4.10 gear. Last time out I was crossint the traps over 1200 at 6100 rpm. I am shifting at 6800.
Search in this forum and there are pictures of the shifter and info on the guy who did my trans. Jay Billingsly sent me to him.

I also vote TH400 with 4000 Nitrous stall. And if you have the extra cash, the TH400 has a GV overdrive unit you can buy for $2500 if you absolutely have to have OD.
Good luck with the new project and welcome to the dark side of the force

WTF is the deal with ppl and 400 having a bigger advantage over the 350 because of "those gears" crap? They both run a 1:1 3rd gear so the rpm will be same no matter what. If you want to run bigger gears, get bigger tires to reduce the rpm but gain starting line traction, duh! The 350 will more than hold WTF you plan on throwing at it. 350 is lighter. You can add a GVOD to a 350 as well.
FWIW, I did my conversion A4 to A3 (TH350) same time as Steve, I am using an 8" ATI TC, suitable for nitrous (nice option since this bitch will be seeing the top side of a 250-300 shot soon enough). Rossler TH350 Terminator II, T-Brake, RMVB, B&M Pro Ratchet shifter, ATI Flexplate and TC, BMR XMember. Nice little setup that saves in the neighborhood of 50lbs, guesstimate, but there is a substantial difference.
GVOD is operated off a footswitch, just like the old dimmer switches mounted on the left side of the floor board. Ratchet shift, push switch, repeat!

i have a rvmb TH400. i love it... i have a 12 bolt w/ 4.10 gears and 28" tires. i max out cruising speed aruond 67-68mph at 3,500 rpm. i have an unlocked converter in a 3,500+ lb car. if you want to stick w/ 26" tires, then go with a 3.73. but if the tires aren't an issue, keep the 4.10s and just go w/ taller tires. if the car isn't making crazy horsepower, i would definately go with the TH350. i got such a good deal on my TH400 i couldn't pass it up. but i would rather have a built TH350.
