Default What's a pretty good company for shipping an engine?

Does anyone know of a pretty cheap company that ships large scale items? I'm buying an engine for my mustang and the guy has never shipped anything as large as an engine,so I could use some help from you guys as to what companies to check out. How much do you think something like this costs?

use google and the yellow pages and get the phone # for as many different shipping companies as ya can and just compare them.
ive noticed the price can very alot. ive had quotes from 190-800 before.
different companies are gonna have differnt prices depending on where its gettgin shipped to.

a company that was cheep for me may not be for you

I used Old Dominion. They charged me $260 to ship my Longblock (515 lbs.) from the Dallas location, to a business in Orlando, FL.

Thanks a lot guys. I like how those prices sound. The engine will be shipped from Saint Petersberg, Florida, so I guess I'll be paying what Formulated paid. I really appreciated it guys. I'm gonna check out those companies right now.

R&L Carriers is a company based out of Florida, they might give you a good rate for some freight moving either way.

R&L so far has had the 2nd best rate. Her's a question for y'all. What the hell do they mean by class. Every site I hit up has a section where I have to pick the class. The numbers range from 50 to 300. What class would a 500 lbs engine be.

We use Con-way, Fedex, Overnite, Central Freight and 3 or 4 others I can't think of on a daily basis. It just depends on where the part is going as to who is cheaper. Fedex is probably the most reliable but also the most expensive. We use Con-way more than anyone else though.

Another option is to post up and ask if someone is making a trip that might be able to pick it up. There are several people on the board that make trips around the gulf and neighboring states pretty frequently.

Well the cheapest I could find was with Forward air for $137. That from St. Petersburg, Florida to Houston, so I think me and that guy are gonna go with them. I hear you guys mention con-way, but they gave me an estimate of $300 something. Oh yeah, I wanted to ask y'all if you know of a place that will rent you one of those fork lifts to pick up pallets? I'm not talking about the automotive fork lifts. I'm talking about those manuel ones. I'll need one to get the engine off the truck. Or maybe one of y'all are willing to lend me one for a fee. I think I'll be needing it Wednesday or Thursday.
