Helmet for LVD?
I was plannig on making my first trip to the Lebannon Valley Dragstrip this coming spring. A while back I called up asking what I needed (never been to a strip before) and she said with my car I would need a helmet. She also said that hemets are about $300. I believe she said it had to be snell 90 rated. The worst part is that my dad really wants to sit shotgun when I make my runs. That means $600+ for helmets alone. I was wondering if a motorcycle helmet is the same as a car dragracing helmet. I would like to buy a used helmet, and have seen a some used motorcycle helmets, but no car helmets. Also, if anyone knows a good place I could get a cheap new/used helmet that would be much appreciated. Actually any info would be useful as I know nothing about helmets or sanctioned racing. Thanks in advance.

Shop around. You will find reasonably priced helmets that are Snell rated '95 or newer all over the place. Long as it has that rating sticker inside, UR good to go. Good luck and welcome here. WJ

Go to a local motorcycle shop and get a moto-X helmet for $75. Check under the padding to make sure it is a Snell 2000 or newer. Snell ratings are updated every 5 years, so Snell 2005 is the newest version. DOT approved does not Mean SNELL approved.

Also like said above, You can not ride a passenger in a car fast enough to need a helmet. I believe 14.0 no passenger & no helmet needed. You can ride a passenger and not use a helmet until you do a 13.99 sec pass.
