Default Purchasing New TA, Auto or 6-speed?

I currently own a '96 TA LT1 Automatic. I am looking to sell it and buy a newer WS6 TA (1999-2002 something in one of those years with Ram Air). I've always wanted a manual 6-speed because shifting is just flat out fun! However, I've read reviews saying that at certain speeds and RPM's the computer on later models forces you to shift from 1st to 4th gear as a gas saving method. Does anyone have a TA that does that? Does it make them a pain in the a$$ to drive around town? I'm not looking to race it or anything like that.
Thanks

What youre speaking of is computer aided gear selection known as CAGS. It takes a $20 SLP skip shift eliminator to disable this. Whether you want an A4 or M6 is purely on what you prefer. Automatics are better for straight line performance, but manual cars are much more fun to me.

you have have that taken out with tuning or theres places that sell a part thatll eliminate that skip shift BS.

it can be annoying but its not a big deal.

if youre not looking for a max and consistent ET go with a manual.

Hell yeah they look purty but I want the performance when I want it ya know. There's nothing sweeter looking than that snarling ram air front end and I want the power to back it up!

You can eliminate the skip shift with a $1 transistor from Radio shack or the $20 one from SLP. You can also get rid of it through tunning. It only works in low rpm's, not when you get on it.

You really can't go wrong either way. If its going to be a daily driver and see alot of traffic than I suggest an auto. If its purely a weekend toy then get the manual. Either way you will be happy

I dont think the skip shift feature has ever really been a deciding factor for anyone because it can be eliminated so easily.

Either way, both are good tranny's. If you plan on building it up some, get a T56 car, they're more durable than the 4L60E.

Get what you are more comfortable with, both have advantages. the A4's do great on the track.

Either way you go you'll be happy. Both are good trannys. But if you plan to build it for drag racing then get the A4. They are more consistant and 10 bolt friendly then the T56.

Yeah manuals are fun to drive. That's what I'll hopefully end up with. The gas mileage really isn't a big concern of mine. Initially I was just curious if that skip shift was annoying at all.

Well, I finally found a car. It's a bitchin road trip away but oh well. It's a '99 TA WS6, red and all stock except a whisper lid and a loud mouth resonator. Only 56K on it as well. Got a sweet deal on it! Can't wait to go pick it up!
