Carbon Fiber Roof
I can hear the flames coming on this one, but I was just wondering how a carbon fiber roof would look on a black Camaro hardtop and if it would even be do-able. I'm thinking maybe an overlay that would bond to the existing roof. I can see it tucking under the existing moldings on the windshield and doors, but not sure how to finish off on the backside at the sailpanel.
Constructive thoughts would be appreciated. Don't need "ricer" comments.

Oh, and let's not forget the Commemerative Corvette Z06 with it's ricey carbon fiber hood
Was hoping for input from other people who have ACTUALLY worked with carbon fiber to get thoughts on technique for doing it, etc.

Well those cars use the carbon fiber material to keep it very light and paint it, your jsut adding to standard roof for look. I could see if you were hardcore and building a roof made out of carbon fiber and painting it to match the car to save weight? Carbon fiber can look nice to accent pieces but in the wrong spots is where the ricers put it. Another idea for you could be t-top project? Maybe try and make up a targa top? Just an idea

Like I said, not really interested in the "cosmetic" comments, I'm going to do what I like regardless of what others think. I'm more interested in comments about how to bond it, should it be molded or overlayed, etc.

i was thinkin of this too, but i would do it for weight, but it would be too expensive to have someone custom fab a whole new roof. and might not be worth it. how much does that piece weigh now. but for looks i think it would look good.
my plan was cf hood, painted but leave scoop unpainted so u can see the cf(manta stripe), like the corvettes kinda, the cf roof, then cf rear hatch painted but leave middle unpainted to complete manta stripe

That's a cool idea, same one I had about the hood. I would love to have a black hood like I do now, but have a carbon fiber scoop showing through. Never thought about the spoiler.
As far as the roof goes, you could use the existing roof as a plug and pull a mold from that, then cast the piece in that mold. This would be if you were doing an overlay only, not replacing the entire roof.

it would look interesting. i had an idea similar to 1sicv6, but with a T/A. it would be different, and if done correctly could look badass. if its not done right it would look like ***, bad

lol, **** what doesnt throw codes on our cars?
Anyway, I think w/ the right scheme it might look pretty good. Dunno about black, altho I can see how it would tie in.
I think you've got the right idea tho on how to make it work and not "look" like its tacked on. I dont see how you can do it any other way besides doing the mold, or 'tucking' it into existing area's.
