Default 408 or 540?

I have recently purchased a 99 Z28 roller, and had originally planned on a 540-572 BBC/TH400, but have been doubting myself lately. I would like to end up drag racing in a 10.5 class(outlaw, etc.). I was wondering if all who have raced, if the 540 would be worth the extra $$ and hassle over a stroker LS1? Thanks

**EDIT** make the 408 a TURBOCHARGED 408

To me, I love BB a lot more and think that they have a lot more potential because of cid. I would definately go with either the 540 or 572 but that's just me. I think the TH400 is the best overall tranny too. A friend of mine is running a 454 w/TH400, Moser rear, etc and running high 9's in the quarter and it's NA so I think anything's possible with more cubes.

I lloked at Shafiroff's website, and a 572 is $200 more than a 540. ($4495)

I only doubted the BBC because of the added weight, and the gauges would have to be changed. I never have had a big block car, but I LOVE the way they sound, and the monstrous torque/hp they make.

i think it would be awfully tight working on a BBC in an ls1 car - unless you do a tube chassis.... i think staying w/ a big inch, small block that was intended to fit in that car would be the best way to go.

my opinion.

if y0uo want to go outlaw racing, BBC all the way. just the choices in heads and intake. if you are wanting to go that fast (low 8s minimum) to compete in the class, then you wont want to mess with the lsx motor.

I tend to agree with gator. 10.5 racing is getting extremely fast these days and you're gonna need a lot of power to hang. Although I would prefer a 522 over both of those combinations based on the initial hit with a 572. That is a big *** arm (4.5") and you have to think how much torque are you actually going to be able to hook off the line? Might want to try calling up W2W or somebody else to see what they think.

But fwiw I think Sardog46 is building a 408 based 10.5 outlaw car with his WS6. Might want to pm him for info regarding the setup. Could be of use to you.

Yeah, I'm interested in putting a 454 BBC/th400 in my 2000 Z-28. You can't go wrong with the massive horsepower/torque in a big block. By the way who can I refer to about this combination?
