Default Opinions of FAST intake w/ FI

Would the FAST intake and 90mm Throttle body be worth the expense with a FI setup? I currently have the LS6 intake / Stock throttle body / D1SC @ 8lbs. I don't know if it will make as much of a difference as compared to an N/A car.

Opinions...worth it? Yes / No...

Any gain you receive naturally aspirated will double at 1 bar of boost (14.7 psi) theoretically. So if a FAST intake gives you 20 rwhp gain on your naturally aspirated motor, it will be worth 40 rwhp at 1 bar of boost. Most people are going to tell you just to turn up the boost and make up the power that way, but remember, boost is a measure of restriction. A FAST intake lowers restriction and allows you to make more power with the SAME amount of boost.

I heard something about the FAST intakes coming apart under higher boost

Might want to posi in the FI section!

it takes a hell of a lot of boost to "break" a FAST. Allan over at FMS is tuning a turbo car right now that makes somewhere in the range of 900hp and it finally blew out the burst disk. Doesn't sound like the actual intake is harmed though.

We blew the bottom out of the fast intake on our shop car, swapped an LS6 on it and it went from 153mph to 152mph trap speeds.

Doing a new setup with a single plane intake next.

hah, ya that was my car. on the 101 oct dyno run it dynoed 947 rwhp and blew the burst panel on the intake manifold. He just ended up building a custom sheet metal piece to be mounted there instead.

The gains from the FAST wont justify the cost. If u wanted to squeeze the last few HP in your setup then go with a FAST or LS2 90mm manifold, otherwise save your money on something else such as a forged bottom end so you can run more boost later on.

What about the BBH SSI?

It doesn't seem like many people saw that big of an increase vs the cost of the intake with a forced induction setup.

Werd. A user recently posted in another thread about FI and restriction, that he had swapped the LS6 for the FAST and the boost dropped 2 psi and he dyno'd about the same. When he cranked the boost up to the previous number (9 psi IIRC), the hp went up by 40. Airflow through the engine, not boost psi, is the key That was a real-world back-to-back test. HTH.

That is not a bad thing right there.

I still want to shoot out a single plane vs a sheetmetal intake on my car, all I need is the single plane which I might just order now, and an elbow. We can rig up the induction for the test. This would happen only after I go turbo.
