Default tranny stuck in 4th gear?!?!

on my way to work yesterday, i took off from a stop light normaly, shifted into 2nd fine, into 3rd fine, and into 4th just fine. when it came time to stop the car, i found i could not bring it out of 4th gear at all. it remains in 4th, and i have tried everything to get it out.... at speed, car on, car off, clutch in/out nothing is working. i havnt recieved any sign of trouble, no sounds, smells, etc... we even drained the fluid, and it looks damn near brand new. to top things off, the car only has 24,999 miles on it. any clues at all? before i drop $2300 on a new tranny?
btw, the car is a 2002 WS6 w/t-56

thanks for any help guys.

Search for stuck in 4th. You will have to pull & tear down the trans.

sounds like it could be bent fork, stock one is alum. could be that the shift keys are bent or jammed up some how. could be a lot of things. its going to have to be taken apart to find out whats wrong though.

get in the back seat and kick the shifter forward or if that does not work then push the clutch in, rev the car up and dump the clutch while pushin up on the stick...this will shock it loose...it messed up already and you can drive on it fine
this happened to me alot when my tranny started to die but it only happened when i would powershift 4th and it is the shift fork and the slider keys probably

get it fixed soon or you will need a new main shaft like i did

Its not the forks, it's the slider keys.

Going through the exact same thing with only 32k on mine and driving just as you said. It's running me 2500 for the new one through GM. I would get a beefed up one from else where for cheaper, but GM should have to eat some of this cost for putting such a crappy trans in these things. The full price is 5K, but they are eating half of it. Isn't yours still under warranty???

Mine did the same thing, only in 5th gear, had to get a new tranny. Fortunetly mine was under warranty. But yeah, it does suck, mine only had 16K on it when that happened.

Have you called the GM customer service line and complain about the quality and the amount of mileage you have on the car and that in 25k that type of problem shouldn't be happening? It's worth a try......I went that route and got them to pay half and maybe you can get them to pay more or all of it minus labor.

Me neither, but I cant stand being taken advantage of and from the research I've been doing there should be some kinda recall on these things to have stronger internals. The number I called is 1-800-222-1020 and bascially tell them your problem and your looking for financial assistance with this. They'll probably ask you if you brought it to a GM shop and what they said, etc... from the looks of whats on your car it doesn't look like you have anything that would be a significant power adder and the mileage on your car is super low and they may cover all of it.
