Started my car this afternoon and herd some ratteling. Jacked up the car got under it and had it started... The noise was coming from the passanger side cat... Guess thats gone and its gotta be replaced. Good thing for that extended warrenty. Does anyone know if this is true that GM warrentys the emission parts in the car for 36,000 miles?

Cats are covered for 8yrs/80K under the federal emissions warranty. Surprised you're not throwing an SES for P0430 too, don't be surprised if it comes on.

Yep, your cat should still be covered.

Do I have to bring it to a dealer to get it replaced or can I bring it to another shop that is a authorized repair facility (Which is my friends) and I can have it done thier were as I can stand thier and watch/do it toghter. Last time I brought my car to the dealer to change a window motor I got the car back with a hole in the bottom of the door and small dents from a drill bit on my rocker..

Give your friend's place a call and see what they say. I have a couple friends that had their drivers side cat replaced for free at dealerships - once they inspected the cat and made sure it wasn't a bad 02 sensor/exhaust leak (both were throwing code P0420). Dealership told them upfront that cats were covered, but o2's and diagnostic "charges" were not if they found something else.

I recently had my passenger catalyctic converter replaced. It was making a terrible rattling sound. Luckily, my warranty has not expired. It expires in April, 8yr/80,000 miles. I took it to the local dealer, and they charged GM an absurd $649.00 for one replacement. If my warranty was expired, I would have taken it somewhere else and had a high-flow put on all for under $150.00.

I just went to my local deal today and made the appointment and did not give me any problems. They told me its under the federal emissions warrenty and will be taken care of.
