T56 vs. Richmond Overdrive 6 speed
Okay before you say it I just finished a search for about 30 min.
Now the question I'm looking to buy a motor/trans combo to do a swap into my Blazer X so I'm prolly gonna get a 6-speed (T56) but I was thinking if I'm gonna do all the mods to make the tranny fit in the first place I might as well do the better one. So which is it the T56 or the Richmond 6 speed? I've really never heard anything but good about them both. Thanks in advance for the opinions.

well the T56 5th and 6th are over drive gears and thbe richmond 6 speed only 6th is overdrive i believe. therefore you will have wider gears in the t56 but a lower cruise RPM. the richmond will have less "in between" each gear and a lower first gear i believe like 3.XX as compared to a ls1 t56 which is 2.66 i believe. 6th in a t56 is like .5:1 and i am not sure what the richmond is like .7:1 or so. havent ever been around a richmond before just know what i have read. it really depends on what you are going to use it for like hot rod, drag car, ect. i know that the T56 is a good tranny and is going to be cheaper prob than a richmond route. hope this helps you a little. all i know is that i have a 55 chevy in a barn with a dual 4bbl carb 396 and it will be getting a T56 when i get out of school. Big Blocks and 6 speeds are really cool.

nice but I know you can pretty much order the Richmon how you want it my question is mostly about durability and availability I almost think the Richmond is tougher but the T56 can match it and beats it in availability.

oh well i was not aware of that, sorry. i would prob go the T56 route because of availabilty and it would be a bit cheaper. you can beef them up if you need to. i just went through my tranny about 2 weeks ago and put new bearings, syncs, and a steel 3/4 fork in it. they are pretty easy to work on and if you are going to have one you will need to know how to. is this going to be going into your xtreme? if thats the case with an ls1 why not go the T56. it all bolts up with factory stuff. just me .02

no prob. i have heard good things about the richmonds too, nothing bad at all. you know that nothing is really industructable though. a T56 will hold up well. i would just go that route cause of how easy they are to get, cost, and how easy it would be to mount to an LS1. BTW the xtreme would be sweet with an LS1. talk about a sleeper

Probably depends on what you are really looking to do ... if street either will work fine ... If you are planning on racing ... Richmond IS NOT a racing trans ... a year or so ago we pulled one out of a Brand "X" 347 car, had maybe 6 passes and busted up all kinds of parts ... One quick trip and $$$ to Liberty gears and problem solved. Richmond trans is also pig heavy ... that's my 2 cents.

AMX Didn't realize they were heavier than the T56 thats something to consider. But aren't they based on NASCAR trannies?
Also Sutt I know it's gonna be a sleeper thats all part of my evil plan lookin to get about 400hp to the street it'll be my little snake killer I'm in the process of getting parts to upgrade the brakes and then gotta finish the suspension and on to the MOTOR

Sutt don't know what you're studying but let me tell you unless it's something really good it only gets a little easier once your out of school. Hell I'm doing this because I can't afford a Vette well I might be able to but then I wouldn't be able to put the baby seat in it.
