SOOOOO I need new rear tires on the vette. Have done alot of research and the responsible choice would have been to go with the Kuhmo MX's or the Firestone wideovals. I'm not a fan of Firestone so that kinda rules them out even though they seem a cheap tire that performs and last forever.

So I call up the discount tire that hooks me up (they did again while the new store by my house acted like I was stupid) all prepared to do the responsible thing and order the good all around long tread life Kuhmo Mx's........well the price was the same for Nitto Dr radials in the 305\35\18 so I ordered those. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

RII's are autocross tires, he got the drag radials it looks like.

well if he got the rII's it could be argued as being more practical thus lessening the severity of the guilt feeling. :jest:

I got the R's which even in the 275 40 17 are fine for daily driving and handle well although a little tiny bit "lofty" But the 305\35\18 DR has a stiffened sidewall so the differences between the R and the RII are even less. The tread compound and wear characteristics are the same. I'll probably run RII's up front....although 555's would be the more responsible thing to do.

Man its just crazy I mean they are the same price as the Kuhmos but the Kuhmos would get at LEAST 20K while I'll be lucky to get 12k out of the DR's. But what I'm thinking is that the tires will spin less which will help equal out the wear and at 9k or so I can sell the DR's for about 150 so I have rationalized that the difference isn't much.....But it is..although 9k is two years of driving for me.

It is a sickness, I'm even thinking now that I sold the headers after the wife is working full time I should go with a single turbo setup. I can put the cam and heads on the Z28 and a stock LS6 cam with 6.0 heads for the turbo... ISSUES!!!

Um OK what are your prices on Toyos? Didn't know you sold them, haven't picked up the DR's yet so I could try and cancel the order.

You got the same disease we all have...... I had a broken output shaft and instead of only replacing that, I bought a whole new stage III rear differential

Yeah that was part of it, I know what to expect with the Nittos, I have the 712's on the vert but am not familiar with the MX's.

Another size I would have went with RII's. In the size I got I don't think it makes that big of a difference.

Will probably do RII's on the vert when its retired to garage duty next year.

I work at a les schwab for a day job... not that great of a discount yet :( but I can see what prices we have.. you're lookin for 305/35ZR18? I'll check the prices on the RA-1's which are the only ones toyo makes in that size (But it does have a full 8/32 of tread depth and is an autocross/track tire). otherwise in 285/35-18 there's the T1-R (Summer performance Y-rated) and 295/35-18 is the T1-S. But my price would probably be the same as a schwab down there. My big discount isn't until February when I've been there 6 months :bang:

I think you did the right choice Bobby, I have had my Nittos for about a little over 2 years and love them! Still hook up great and still make runs up to Seattle to my parents home every now and then.

I too run nittos Bobby! They aren't DR's though, I run 275/35/18 extreme's on the back for street use. I love them! They have had great tread wear and I havn't had any issues at all! They stick decent exept in low gears at high RPMs! ;) I'm on my second set and have plenty of miles to go. However they aren't nearly as sticky as the DR's :D

Aren't the toyos a harder tire? Whats the tread wear on them?

Tread wear on the T1-S and T1-R is 280 and the RA-1 is 100

Yeah Bobby, what are you thinkin anyway? Nittos for street tires.....just like, um....me! Tho I do run Toyo T1-S's on the fronts. Nice tires. They handle very well.

Well the T1-S is now discontinued I guess since the T1-R came out...

$358.78/ea for the RA-1's in 305/35-18 and $272.97 for the 295/35-18 T1-R...

And I checked on 275/40-17's for those runnin the T1-S' now :( Discontinued and no T1-R currently in that size.

Yeah the RA-1 would have been the comparible tire to the Nitto and I got the Nittos for 250 a piece mounted and balanced. That is a good price on the Toyos though which are maybe more comparable to the RII. If I didn't have the Nittos ordered I may have went with those. I maybe calling you when I replace the fronts :) I am going to get the Bilstien sports before the fronts so I can do just one alignment.

Hehe good idea... Depending on if I stick around by my 6mo I may get some 18" wheels with 275/35-18's all the way around. Now to decide on RA1's or T1-R's :bang:
