Default Turbo F-body (pics)

Well the Turbo F-body is on it's way to finally being completed. Original ower sold the car but the new owner brought it back for me to complete. Hot parts are out getting coated then the car just needs some minor wiring and fuel system stuff done. Thought you guys might like to see some of the fabrication before I pulled everything off for coating. Hopefully the car will be getting tuned very soon and I might get some video if possible. First season will be on the mild side since the motor is pretty stock at this point. When the bottom end gets some good pistons and other goodies I'm hoping the car will do high 8's but who knows

No it's not a twin turbo (big single). Currently the stock air box is cut up to hold the radiator in place. This will be replaced with a custom aluminum piece after the car is tuned and running. I designed the intake like it is so I could get as much air as possible into the motor without restrictions and still keep the stock hood latch. Intercooler is single 3" inlet and twin 2 1/2" outlets as you can see that merge into a 4" piece

Picture of the down pipe (4" stainless steel). Pipe is approximately 2 1/2" below the after market k-member. The stock k-member hangs about the same distance down at the down pipe now.

This is the merge section into the turbo along with the waste gate tube (not completely welded in pic). You can also see the crossover merge further back in the picture. Turned out nice I think, should provide a nice smooth transition and everything is in optimal location for flow.

This is all you see with the fender cover in place (waste gate with dump tube)

What's under the cover

Air filter view through the old fog light hole. Should get plenty of cold air into the 4 1/2" x 6" filter.

Back section of the 4" stainless steel exhaust that runs from the turbo all the way back over the axle. As you can see there's a v-band joint for easy removal.

If the new owner wants to speak up he can, otherwise I'll just leave it a secret.

Enjoy,

Brett

looks good, but why not tuck the exaust up higher under the K? 4" under the K is brutal, why leave the 2.5" space?

Really nice work. But I agree with Tiago. Would really like to see it protected by the K memeber.

4" tube will in now way ever fit through the k-member and it doesn't have 2 1/2" space. The tube itself is oval down to 2 1/2" and tight up to the k-member. Like I mentioned, it's about the same height as the bottom of a stock k-member to the bottom of the exhaust. If it ends up dragging when the tires come back down then I'll change it to twin 2 1/2" that merge back into the 4" but run them up through the K-member.

I ordered a 4'' DP with my Hi-Flo kit and its going over the K-member

Actually i have a question though, is he going to put the wheel well cover back on to prevent the tire from slinging a bunch of **** on the turbo? That bracket is a really good idea, are you worries about the heat warping any of the plastic?

Exactly. Not bashing your work in any way. But high flow has that option.

i got a 4" downpipe through my k-member as well.

you might not have a problem with it flattened to 2.5" as you mentioned, maybe maybe not.

Yes it does, since this car will be a street car/daily driven, keeping all the accessories of a fully loaded car was a must IMO.

Does your DP run on the drivers side or passenger? This runs on the drivers side as you can see.

Yes the cover will be run to keep the turbo out of site. The only part that's close to it is the compressor so I don't think melting will be a problem. Everything is also getting ceramic coated as we speak.
