New LS1 Owners - Newbie Tech - Is it normal to feel the power added by a lid?

I installed a lid today and I can tell the difference. Its an a4. Earlier I was sitting at a stoplight in the right lane with no one around. I punched it on green and spun so much that I ended up in the left lane. I didn't think that it would make that much of a difference

I didn't really feel much from it. It definitely helped but I don't think it added enough to actually make a noticeable difference.

I thought I did when I first put it on. May have been just my head because I thought it should be faster. I am sure you will notice on time slips at the track. Good investment no matter how you look at it.

A lid should add roughly 10rwhp at peak. Definitely good for a drop in ET and a gain in MPH, but it's never made any big difference in how the car feels to me on the street. Makes the motor sound better under WOT though :D

I noticed sharper throttle response from mine. Revs quicker as well.

agree with that statement. same thing happened when I installed mine. my friend and I did a few pulls on the street and I hung with him better than before the lid.

I think some guys know the gain is there so thier minds make them think they feel the difference. If you add a lid to a stock or near stock F-body the gain is 7-10 rwhp which would only equal a tenth gain (maybe even slightly less) in the 1/4 mile. My acceleration didn't really feel any different after I installed my lid but I knew the gain was there.

The two mods in my sig that made the biggest night and day difference to acceleration was the torque converter and the dyno-tune. The torque converter for obvious reasons and the dyno-tune gained me 29 rwhp (I was running wicked lean).

I just installed a lid on my buddies otherwise bone stock SS. I made sure to take a before and after drive to measure improvements on my psychic horsepower meter. On the after drive, I noticed the car felt slightly more responsive. My buddies PHM was off the chart and he was ready to win a race.

I almost flipped mine onto the roof :) It seemed like I could feel a little difference when I put mine on.

I'm unsure on a totally stock car. My car already had LT's and ORYP when I added the lid and S3. The only thing I noticed is I got back some of that punch the car had from 1000 to 2000rpms I lost when I had the LT's installed. So basically a little throttle response is all I noticed and that's all the dyno showed. I gained 1hp and 1tq on the peaks with the lid and S3. If you look at the dyno I was up around 5hp and 10tq through the curve with it just kind of petering out at the end. I still have the stock cat back as well. So who knows why. The car does run pretty good though 8.3's

I only notice it at the track, and it has added 1 mph and taken off .1 on 3 LS1s that I have run at different times in the same conditions.

It added 3 seconds? I guess that would be wheel spin from the extra 100-200hp? At least it showed up in the MPH though :jest:

After I installed mine, I can no longer go over 88mph, because the car will jump back in time. Do you know how bad it sucks to stay under 88 mph at the track?!? :jest:

You guys have mental problems! If you really want to feel a difference, throw a 100 shot wet kit on and I think your minds may feel it!

I only felt a difference in three mods: underdrive pulley, long tube headers, and cam........other than the nitrous.

I put my stock lid back on for a short time (don't ask), and believe me, the lid makes a huge difference.

I think it's all in your head. Your not going to feel the maybe 10rwhp from a lid on a 300+ rwhp car. I have undersetemated my car and spun it around too.

Also. My lid gained 2rwhp. :jest:

MY car slowed down after putting a lid on.

2001 SS A4 bone stock, ran 13.0@107.59.

Next time at the track with a lid/filter best I could do was 13.11@106.79.

Looks to me the outlet of the stock lid is bigger than the aftermarket ones, it has that big oval to round transition the aftermarkets ones don't have.

A Firehawk comes with a lid and they don't run any faster stock, so...

I felt a huge diffrence but I did lid, FTRA, TB bypass, UMI SFC's and 160 * thermostat all at once.

EDIT: next is kooks long tubes and true duals.

Fact: the lid adds about 10 hp to the car. There is an article where they took a stock (unmodded) LS1 F-Body (4th gen Camaro/Firebird V8) and dynoed stock and then with different after market lids. Some lids did better and some worse but they all increase the HP on this dyno at the same time and same vehicle.

Fiction: You are not gonna feel a big difference in you car, if at all.

On a side note: If you pull a slower time at the track after installing a lid there are many variables that way in. Such as: difference in temp and humidity. The state of the car from one day to the next. Track conditions. And the most common, driver.

I noticed a difference in throttle response and it seemed to pull a little harder up top. There is alot of it in your head though any time you do a HP mod.

As for lighting the tires up more than usual... it has been getting colder out... maybe thats why ?

Some of you guys are brutal..... :jest:

It's hard to tell sotp if you can feel anything from a lid, I always thought I could but if I changed it back I bet I wouldn't have noticed much different. I big change I noticed was the sound, I loved hearing it sucking in air!

I wouldn't call it a big difference, but it was there and I could feel it....throttle response mostly. There wasn't as much of a pause between the time you hit the peddle and feel the car accelerate. I think it's worth it though. It was much more fun to drive afterwards.

I am betting on if u felt that much of a differ from just a LID ALONE . you prolly had a Dirty STOCK filter .. and ur CAR was choking for AIR lol

What he said. I noticed just a hint of a difference but nothing anyone else who didn't drive my car daily would.

I got an slp lid and it fits like a glove and I deffently felt a lot better throttle response.

I also did a foam filter first prior to the lid and throttle response was felt very little but truly noticalbe with the lid.

The loudmouth was a huge noticable difference, don't know about the y-pipe I installed it at the same time as the loudmouth. lid, loudmouth, foam filter -no laughing please- are a great combo. Then add sfc and you'll think you added a hp mod.
