Default Having collectors built

This place has done aircraft exhaust for years, branching into automotive.
http://stainlessheaders.com
After a good conversation with the guy (Chris) I sent them a couple CAD drawings and these renderings:

Say's no problem. 1 3/4" primary to 3" merge into T4. All out of 321 stainless. Couple of weeks.

AutoCAD for the geometry then SurfCAM for the surfaces. Seriously about a half hour total. Their regular price is $250.00 (Burn's are $320.00.) per normal merge collector (a bargain) and all they use is 321. Dont know how much for a setup like this. They want to use pics of my motor so they cut me a deal on the package. I supplied the T4 flanges. Check out their work on the web site above. Chris is a real nice guy to talk to.

The array command is your friend. Draw one pipe, circular array and end up with four in an instant! Nothin' to it!

Now you know why I do buisness with them... At first for aviation stuff....

I have'nt bought components from cooks, stahl or burns in ages....

Their skill, QC and custom service is awesome... We have alot of talent up here... I am lucky to have places like them and QA1 a stones throw away.

Are you going with a double slip primary attachment?

The part pictured is not cut to size yet but you have to appreciate the geometry going on. The rest will be their merge collector in whatever configuration they think is best. Im just along for the ride.

I know that is a early photo in the production process.. Its just got one tack weld and their layout ink is still on it.. Completely normal for that stage..

Their merge collector

This next pic is from burn$$tanless....
Just shown to explain a double slip joint...

http://stainlessheaders.com/merge.htm can do a double slip too... Just no pics up of a double slip right now

Thats pretty slick! Id like to see pictures after its all done.

Ive used AutoCAD for 10 years. We recently switched to Solidworks where I work at and its been like a revolution in CAD. LMAO Like learning to use my left hand when Im right handed. Different but once you get the hang of it, VERY useful

agree...im at school, mech. eng. major and just finished up graphics II, which uses solidworks, were the first class to use it at the school...and even though its new to all of us (even the professor) everyone likes it much more than pro-e and autocad that the other classes use

10 years is enough time to have seen enough idiots who couldn't CAD there way out of the crapper. I have Solidworks too. In my shop (lasercutting) the world is flat as a pancake. AutoCAD is by far the fastest software available for 2D stuff when there is little to no time. I use my Surfcam for 3D (CNC Mill) simply because it is faster also. Nothing worse that watching someone spend hours on a drawing that should have been only minutes and will usually be the deciding factor if a particular job ships that day or not. I have even seen a guy doing CAD with a trackball. What an idiot. No way you could do any kind of production with a stinking trackball.

Sure they would build whatever your needs are. I do know this, their history is in aircraft where every single piece of pipe is documented and every weld is a big deal with the FAA. Gotta trust their craftsmanship at 10,000 feet. Besides, .049 321 is pretty damn tough stuff.

I have seen .049 turbo hot components for a turbocharged lycoming flat four...

IMHO Construction techniques and design have alot more to do with it than the wall thickness alone...

I am sold on double slip joints..
