I'm trying to decide to dump a couple grand into an ME 9" setup or just build up the 10 bolt?

The car is an 02 SS M6. The motor should be around 430rwhp when done. I'm doing a head/cam swap and full bolt ons. Cam will be an FMS F14, heads are custom built 5.3s (62cc) with Manley Pro-Flo 2.02 intakes and 1.575 exhausts. PRC Gold double springs, Ti retainers, hardened pushrods...

Also have the usual SFCs, STB, on a Bilstein suspension. Will likely replace the LCAs and add relocation brackets.

I'll be running a 4.10:1 ratio.

I'm not big into drag racing, but I would like to take the car to the track when I'm done to see what it and I can do. Other than that I will mostly be at cars shows and just driving the country and mountain roads around my house with an occaisional autox event.

Is it safe to build up the 10 bolt or ...?

With you M6 I would get at least a nice 12 bolt with that power!

You will not build up the 10-bolt successfully. The weak point is its size, and there is no way around that other than going bigger.

man get a 12 bolt or a 9 inch and be done with it,dont waste ur time on that weenie 10 bolt,been there and done that already

I wouldn't build up a ten bolt, but I would ride it until it broke.

Not to hijack, but I'm assuming for HP drag racing that it wouldn't be practical, however, for RR and AX, I've managed to explode, grenade, detonate, and mangle many other parts, yet my 10-bolt is still okay. As you guys mention, it's usually the other way around.

I would mention that I did add a Torsen T-2R and rear end girdle to mine, and still hasn't been screwed. Also running an ACPT Carbon Fibre driveshaft. Still running the 3.42 ratio though. I might add that I am at about 401 RWHP/378 RWTQ(SAE corrected) running sticky shoes. My only answers would be that it is still hanging around due to not doing burnouts and not running much more HP/TQ, and it's been around 90K of the cars current 130K on the odom.

BTW, great website for the diff change Keliente. Wish I found something that detailed when I did my diff change.

It will be ok same for road racing as drag racing if you manage to wheel hop the car the little 7.5 pinion's gunna bear the brunt of the trama aside from launching on slicks bad wheel hop is close second to wiping out drivetrain but Keliente says runner till she breaks...

...Well I never plan on running anything other than street tires and if I do go to the strip it will only be once or twice...plus the strip here is nearly 5,000ft above sea level. I will perhaps hit a few autox events, once a year max. THe rest will be pleasure driving or just hanging out at car shows.

That being said, I hate to spend $2,000 if it's not needed, but things never break at conveniant times or in a conveniant place.

bypass the build up it wuld be a waste of ur time and money,save for a 12 bolt or a 9 inch and be done with it
