Default This Could Only Happen To Me...

I was torquing my head down yesterday and it felt a little rough for 22 ft. lbs. I got all the large bolts done and went to finish the top 10mm bolts and snapped the first one off. I checked my piece of **** torque wrench against my buddys. Oh yeah it was way off. Hopefully once I pull the head I can get the broken bolt out. I just want this to be done I miss my car.

same thing happened to me when i was doing my heads. i found out my brother was in the habit of tightening and loosening bolts with my torque wrench

i was lucky tho...when i pulled the head, about 1/3" of the bolt was sticking out of the hole so then i just went at it with some vice grips and got it out in no time...what an inconvenience tho.

good luck with yours

That's what I'm hoping to do as well. When I broke off the bolt it only broke about a 1/2 inch off so hopefully it's sticking out above the deck. It just sucks I had to buy a new set of head bolts.

This is somewhat of a common problem. I don't think I'd recomend anything other than arp head studs.

sounds like you should be alright with getting that bolt out - i'd say mine broke off about the same.

Well I got a new set of head bolts and the rest of my gaskets today so she should be running again by Wednesday or so. Then I've got to break in my new clutch. I just can't wait to spray my wet shot for the first time with my new heads!

Just got mine last Friday! All of these 'broken bolt' posts have made me too nervous for bolts.

Hell, if your torque wrench is off that much you're probably going to stretch ARP bolts or studs till they break also. Get it calibrated once in a while.
