Anyone working a civilian contract job in Iraq?
Or Afghanistan? I am going to start getting heavy on the job hunting. I hit 19 years yesterday. Anyone working for KBR? I know they pay some serious bucks, and I was on their website and they have plenty of jobs open that I would qualify for. The KBR guys I talked to in Afghanistan this summer were loving it. Big bucks, two week vacation every 90 days. I believe I would start out at over 100K easily. Anyone here doing this?

My fiancee's cousin just got hired on w/Halliburton doing networking(how, I don't know, he's about as qualified for that as I am to run a Nascar pit crew), but anyhow. He's supposed to get 10k a month over there. Not the company I'd want to go over with, but money is money, right? To some, I suppose.
Another friend of hers worked for Blackwater Security and came home rich for life. Not real sure what he did over there, I've not spoken with the guy, but whatever it was, he got paid to do it.
I've looked into a couple jobs, and would seriously consider finding a contract position once I get my certifications/associates done.

Hey, I work for KBR and am located in South Iraq. Its ok here. The money is good but no one is going to make over 100k unless your a big manager. But if you can live with around 70 to 80, then its ok.

you my friend are dumb! you are gettin screwed by them bad if you arent getting over 100k especially if you are in IRAQ. Now those numbers you posted are more like kuwait/kosovo/bosnia etc #'s.
anyhow on a brighter note, i have been in for 5 years now and i have already been offered a job in Afghanistan doing the same thing i do now, and my lowball offer started out at 101k/yr not counting overtime and what not.but you have to know how to negotiate contracts and have a strong resume i guess.
oh yeah and you have to earn more than 100k before that whole 80k tax free thing comes into play, and any less than that its the first 60k/yr that is tax free. i know these things because a few family members work for Halliburton in some very good postions including retired exec.vice pres. for the Mobile ,Al.operations

When I was in Iraq last summer, there were alot of guys coming over to work for KBR, then they'd find a better paying job once they got there and got to meet some other people. We had Osh-Kosh guys working with us, they'd make $10K a month with a $5K bonus each month if they didn't miss work and met their quotas. We didn't make much b/c I'm a federal employee, and we got taxed to death. But I still had a gross income of $45K for the 4 months I was there.
