Default QUESTION ON "99" TAILLIGHT DEFECT?

I just bought a pair of tail lights off ebay advertised as "in excellent condition". When they arrived, I opened them to find they're flatspotted/heatwarped over the brakelight area. I e-mailed the guy requesting a refund for the lights- I was willing to pay return freight and forget the already shipped to freight. Anyway, the seller e-mails me back stating "99 tail lights are made this way" and I wanted to check with some folks who know for shure. Please respond and let me know if his statement is accurate if you know for shure one way or another.. Thanks!

There's a problem with the 98+ taillights warping and stuff like that. I dont know if it's 99 specific, but I know it's common.

I know if you put blackouts over the lights they tend to warp. So this may be the scenario...
Dude had blackout on his car. After they lost his interest he took them off of his caronly to find his taillights were warped to ****. So he gets the sleazy idea to sell them to some poor sap on ebay (sorry that's you). Knowing that there's a very good chance he will get away with being a dick he tells you some bullshit about them coming like that

Now I don't know anything about ebay's fraud policies or whatnot because I have yet to have been ripped off,(although I'm sure it's coming ) but I would attempt to contact Ebay, Paypal(if you used it) and if all else fails bugthe **** out of the dude. Hopefully one day the guy will get his *** kicked.

Like I said, this is simply a possible scenario, but you have to say its pretty plausible. I could be wrong. But if I'm not, sorry dude.

Sounds like bull do-do to me. I've never heard of this problem on any '99, including my own.

my 99 has the little warpage goin on, on the brake light too. But i just decided any car that has higher mileage probably just got it bc of the brake lights being on a lot more than a car with lower mileage.

Definitely the scenario... it's the only way they could warp, I've got a 99 and no tail light issues at all, until I put blackouts on... it actually happens with most cars... So I just leave them on to hide the warp while I can save up for some new ones, and just nite shade those.

I'd say this guy is full of dookie. I've been around a lot of F-bodies, and never once seen that problem ever. I've seen it with people using blackouts on their car, but no factory defect.

Guy is trying to pull one over on you.

yeah, tell him if he dosent email you back that he is refunding your money in full (including the shipping you paid) that you are going to take it to ebay

if he gets nasty, tell him you are going to press federal mail fraud charges

I've heard of this at least 10 different times. It's especially common on B4C's that see heavy night use. They warp slightly due to the heat from the bulbs. My 97 ones have very slight warps, but are barely detectable. I've seen it on every year B4C since '93 too--but not every vehicle.

In your case, I'd still send them back. I'd never characterize warped ones as "like new". That's the real issue here.

Two of my friends have had this problem, both 2002's, one is a 6-speed, the other an auto. So apparently it is a problem.

I'd send them back, they are not made like that.

Ive had that problem on my 97 and 99 z28.. due to installing blackouts. without the blackouts they were fine.
