Default How much can you narrow without mini tubbing?

I figured I would post this here to get a better response, and my car is strictly for drag racing. I am getting a Moser 9in, and I want to get it narrowed and run a 28x10.5x15 slicks, but I do not want to minitub. Wheel backspacing will be determined once I get the rear. Wheels will be 15x10 Centerline Convo Pros. I used to have 15x8.5 with 5in BS & 28x10.5x15 tires, and they stuck out too far for my taste. Let me know what you guys think.

I have a 3 inch per side narrowed rear end (6 total).. running a 15X10 weld with a 6 inch BS and a 275/60/15 (28 inches tall) and its not mini tubbed.

If I ran a 15x10 with 5in BS that would still fit ok don't you think?

outlaw did you have to cut anything under teh car to get it to fit? probably went ofset LCA bushings right? and shots of under teh car?

i know on our LT1 car we went 2" narrowed on each side and 15x10 5BS and it looks nice. nothing banged or cutup. stock LCA position too.

Just the factory bumpstop pearches.. i dont have offset LCA's bushings.. just the normal/standard Wolfe bushing but I do have the upgraded big bolt kit.But that has nothing to do with the LCA location. I also just put the Wolfe rear spring pearches in the car, but I had this same setup BEFORE I did the pearches with no problems.

with the 5 inches of backspacing i'd knock 2 inches off of each side. i have 1 1/2 off each side of mine with 15x10 convo's with 5 inch backspacing. with the 28x11.5x15, its really close but doesn't look like it'll rub the outter fender. i got them from Navy David (?) and his was narrowed 1 1/2 on each side also

I got mine narrowed 3 inches per side, 15x10 with 5 inches of BS and a 325/50 drag radial..BUT I am minitubbed.....just start from there and add/subtract from either the wheel or the axle end. 325/50 is THE max width tire you can safely fit on these cars. The tread is 11.75, section width is almost 14 inches I dont have much clearance even with the minitub.

I think to be safe, I might just go with 2 inches. I would go 3 if Centerline made their convo pros with 6in of backspacing, but the max is 5. Thanks guys for all of your help.

Actually a pretty good post here. Outlaw did u have to smack the inner wells pretty good? have to do any cutting? And I thought your car was a tin floored race car? Or was I wrong on that? and Last question how would fitting like a 29.5 inch tire in there work? Is there enough wheel well? Or would that need a Minitub?

figure it this way.

stock placement is 15x10 a/ 7.5" backspacing

so if you narrow the rear end 2", you'd need 2" LESS backspacing to keep it in the same area.

so you'd go 15x10 w/ 5.5" backspacing. if you run a 5" backspacing rim, you are SUCKING the rims in an extra 1/2"

from your statement about the centerline and 6" BS, i think you got the direction wrong. if you narrowed the rear 3", you'd NEED a 5" backspacing rim to be close to what was original on the car. if you went to that 6" like you said u would if they offered it, the rim would be sucked in a total of 1.5" from the "original" area

I have yet to hit anything with a hammer. I just cut the bumpstop brackets out and that was it. My car has ALL the stock floor in it from the front to the back. I dont know cause I dont have the 29's but as a guess, i would have to do some work with a hammer and trim the fenders. But if I was going to do a bigger tire I would just mini tub it, but thats me.

Two weeks ago a guy went 7.97@180 on the same 275/60/15 tire and stock suspenstion.

hmmm maybe i'm a dumbass.. but what's the point of narrowing if you still have the same size rim? you just change the BS...

1. Tuck the wheel and tire in a little more.
2. A nice deep dish wheel.

"2. A nice deep dish wheel." Ding,Ding,Ding WINNER!

I was ordering wheels and the 12 bolt at the same time so since the deep dish looks so good, I had the rear made 5"s shorter and it alowed the wheels to look like this:

I think the deep dish looks much better. I'm sure there must be other good reasons to do it but thats why I did it.

I liked your wheels so much I ordered the same set and a narrowed rear from SJM. you also save some weight amd rotating mass with a narrowed rear
