Default What is this switch above the clutch?

There is some sort of adjustable plastic switch that is located in front of the clutch pedal. When the clutch pedal is at rest, the switch should be pressed in. The plastic hooks on mine are broken though and the switch just dangles. I thought it was the neutral safety switch, but apparently it is not. What is it, and what does it do? Is it ok not to be functioning like it was made to?

I do believe that it has something to do with cruise control. After I had adjusted my pedal too far I thought my cruise was broken and realized that it just wasn't engaging that switch.
