Anyone ever done this? I'm about to go outside and start on the project, wondering if anyone has ever done this so I will know what to expect. I'm going to be wiring up everything myself with some of the hundreds of LEDs i have here, so it'll all be custom.
Wish me luck :)

Sorry I had to putfile it, my FTP is broken to my webserver right now.
I didn't do that great on this one, but I know what I did wrong and it will be better on every one afterward. I think it came out pretty great though :thumb:
you are now required to write a detailed write up! It looks pretty great

I might do a writeup soon, do you guys know of any other fbods that have done this? I just thought about it and I can't think of any that I have seen. I'm sure it has been done before, just not that I know of.

that looks nice. Are you going to bring the down part of the arrow, or just leave it like that?

I'm probably going to leave it like it is, I didn't really want an arrow, I wanted something different.

That looks very nice. Did you make your own LED strip or did you buy it somewhere? I have been interested in this as well. Does the back of the class scrape off to make it see thru? Congrats though, you are the first one i know of that has done this!

I made the LED strip myself, I have tons of breadboard and LEDs lying around. I actually thought the silvering would be on the back of the mirror, but I was wrong it was on the front. So I basically took a worn down dremel abrasive bit and took the silvering off the front of the mirror where the LEDs could shine through.
I'll do a writeup I promise, finals are this week though and I don't have much time :)

I'd be happy to help if you want to drive the 490 miles to get here :D

K I did my passenger door tonight and took lots of pics, but I realized something tonight as well :jest:
Apparently the wires I used from under the dash are the ones that control the DRLs as well, because the way I wired it the lights stay on when the DRLs do. I have the automatic headlights bypassed in my car, so I'm not sure if that might cause it, but basically if you drive around without the headlights on in my car the LEDs stay lit up solid until you put your blinker on, and then they blink accordingly.
Now... I actually like this, just because I get to see my hard work shining all the time, but I know this would annoy some people because of the fact that this isnt how normal turn signal mirrors work. So I will probably figure out how to rewire them to only come on when the blinker is on, and then do the writeup.

Very cool Evilbadz! I would probably drive with the mirrors lit w/ my DRLs until i got sick of it. I actually kind of like the idea! Thanks for the info! I have finals this week as well. Thanks for the quick info!
When you get a chance.. Can you list some info on the resistor used, and some details of the LED as well. Thank again!

If you tap into the light blue with white (left) and dark blue with white (right) wires at the DRL module behind the radio your turn signals will work correctly. The corresponding wires without the white tracer (light blue, dark blue) carry both turn signal and DRL power so they would cause the symptoms you describe.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I was pretty much just following wires from under the hood and got the light blue/dark blue to use. I wasn't aware of the white indicators showing the wires without the DRL.
Anyway I'll pop open the dash today and fix it up ;)

i just ordered some LEDs off Ebay for this. Orange 3mm 20+ MA 5k mcd. Hopefully they are bright enough! 3mm is i think too small, but I think i will use more... May have to get some 5mm ones...
