241 castings: 01 and 02 F-bodies
243 castings: LS6 heads (ZO6 heads)
853 castings: 98-00 F-bodies

The 241s are better than the 853s, and the 243s are better than the 241s.

FYI...with 853's you will have to get perimeter type valve covers and different coil pack brackets.

i just swaped my 853's out for stock 243's. and you have to buy coil brakets to mount the coils and get the center bolt valve covers cause the old perimiter style don't work. so it cost a couple extra bucks. but the 243's have bigger valves and ports . i felt a very nice gain all the way through the RPM's. and at low rpm's it is much smoother (this is with a cam by the way). i picked them up brand new, and dirt cheap on E-bay. worth every penny.

Nope, 98's are the only year with perimeter bolt pattern valve covers. 99 up got centerbolt style.
