Default Do I Need the PCV?

a few minutes ago I was disconnecting the pcv from the manifold, and hose from the valve cover, and I tore the rubber boot that the pcv fits in. Any way i am doing the diy catch can(see Wakerider's post here). any way when everything is hooked up, do I need the pcv any way, since there is a filter on the catch can. my car is a 99Z. oh yeah, whats with the ground strap hooked up to the pcv?thanks for any help.

You should keep the valve. Otherwise you'll suck more oil out of the engine.

That strap is listed as a heat sink in GM literature. Supposed to warm the valve faster. I don't think it's really necessary though, I removed the strap when I did the verticle PCV mod on my WS6 and saw no ill side effects.

RPM said I do not need the pcv since my catchcan has a filter in it to stop oil flow.
