Was reading in another thread where someone said to get a good launch on a manual turbo car you'd need a 2 step. Can someone explain what a 2 step is and what it does?

The 2-Step makes you engine miss causing un burned fuel to detonate in the exhaust spooling the turbo up... I think... Again ask Harlan (y2khawk) he built mine.

It is basically a 2nd rev limiter that you use at the starting line to build boost, the 2 step cuts out spark, that allows you to put a load on the motor, and build more boost at the line.

Thanks for the replies so far, keep em coming. Dont assume that I havent searched already. I found lots of threads concerning 2 step issues and some of people wanting to buy a 2 step. Didnt find one that said what it was or how it worked.

You set the 2-step to desired rpm. Stand on the brake and engage 2-step, then floor the gas pedal. Once the preset rpm is reached it will maintain said rpm and only 1 bank of cylinders will get spark. This helps build boost. When you let off the brake all hell breaks loose. It eliminates the need to try and watch rpms and boost while watching the tree.

cool thanks, i actually came across 2 of those threads in my search but didnt take away much from them. They hint at what its capable of but dont really explain what a 2 step does. Are 2 steps mostly for extreme turbo apps or would one benefit from one running on low boost for the time being?

Thanks quicksilverado, so what do you do with the clutch pedal if your gassing and braking while the 2 step is doing its thing?

2-steps can be beneficial to anyone. They are extremely nice for turbo setups though, so you can leave the line with more boost.

In a manual I believe the 2-step works off the clutch instead of the brake.

I'm redoing the packaging, adding a couple features, etc.

And like was stated above, it's an igntion based revlimiter that is user adjustable. Can be activated by your choice of inputs, transbrake, foot brake, clutch, etc.

Turn it on, and you can flat foot the throttle while maintaining a constant and adjusable RPM.

Good for consistant launch RPM, building some boost with a clutch/turbo car, quicker spool or limited rpm with an auto/turbo car, same for a blower car, you pick

I can understand some of the badgering dementia's getting but i'd like to thank the people on here that aren't giving him a hard time because I've been wanting to know what two step is and just haven't been able to find the time to do a search on it. Where can I go to find about 2-step for automatics? Would I need an after market torque converter to get the rpm's higher?
