Default ls6 cam in a 5.3l

I am thinking about putting an ls6 cam #12560950 in the 5.3 that i am building to
go in my '91 silverado. What kind of gains would i see over the stock cam? This is
my first lsx type engine so i'm new to which swaps work the best. Any info would be
greatly appreciated.

there are better choices out there that are more performance oriented. but for the money it can be a good upgrade. not sure on how much you will pick up though. the good thing is you can run a stock tune with it. it depends if you are wanting it to lope or sound stock. what are the stock specs of the 5.3?

That cam likes to rev higher and makes power higher in the band.
I think you should get something more suited to your trucking purposes.
Like something with more trq under the curve. Check VINCI truck cams>>>>

Thanks, i was wondering how much higher it would move the powerband. The truck is going
to be a hotrod/daily driver so i would like a little more zip. I also forgot to mention i'm going
with a carburetor setup.

SD means you will be tuning without a MAF (Speed Density), like in the old days.
Are you getting a MSD box to manage your coils?

Yeah the edelbrock performer rpm manifold i ordered comes with the ignition control box.
I also am getting one of innovates LM-1 w/wide band o2 sensor to tune everything once
i get it going. I may be using a carb. but i want it to run as clean and efficient as i can.
I appreciate the help and patience.

The TR 224/224, .563/.563 112lsa +4 is a heck of all around cam. That thing will be considered medium size in a 5.3.

Otherwise like I mentionned a VINCI/CRANE cam
Like:

062 (cam number on Vinci site)
DUR @ .004" 272*/280*
DUR @ .050" 210*/218*
LIFT .551 / .551
OVERLAP 52*
LSA 112*
Power range 1900>6000

Do you have the $$ to get a ported set of heads?

I had considered either buying a set of heads or having mine worked. I only live about
30 minutes from Patriot Performance's shop here in Alabama. I thought about contacting
them about heads. I had thought bout just a mild cam swap where i could get the motor
in and tuned. Like i said this is my first LSx type motor so this is kind of a guinea pig.
