I don't know about looks before and after, but the impurities removed from the clear is amazing. Extremely smooth after also. Do a small part and feel the difference.

I've got a black car and the previous owner didn't take very good care of the exterior. Should I clay it this weekend before I wax it?

/\ Right on!

Wax is just to help protect the "clean" paint after the clay treatment.

Hell, I'd do a claybar every couple months. If you can feel the dirt buildup in the paint...time to claybar.

I wash, clay, rewash to make sure all the clay if off, then polish and wax. If you clay 2-3 times a year you will have a much easier time washing the car.

polish , polish , polish .

wash , clay , then polish , that gives it the deep shine , then wax to protect it . polish will do wonders on a black car .

i belive polish is just that, its applied like a wax but ... its a polish. lol ive never used one personally, but i would like to. and as for a claybar, u can get one at like advanced auto, its a mothers claybar kit that comes with a detailer spray (its what u use to lube the paint before rubbing the clay over it), and a carnuba wax .. which is good but ive yet to use it.

and like mentioned before. DO NOT drop the clay bar. if u do. go out and get new one.

Right on.
All I use is pure polish- & lots of it. Polish cleans and nourishes the paint. Wax just seals & reflects. I also clay bar once a year or so to remove surface impurities. It's been about 5 years and the original paint on my black SS still looks awesome- deep & wet.

There is no exaggeration about the claybar...if its never been done, it'll make the paint smooth as glass, and then super smooth after a layer or two of wax. You'll notice it most on the hood, roof, rear spoiler and bumper. It's gonna sound like its ripping the paint off, especially on your 98...but thats a good sound! DO IT
