Someone convince me that I want to stay with HPTuners
I have 2 vettes with HPTuners 1.7. I am rebuilding the engine on the 01 C5 and want to get rid of the MAF.
I need to do SD tuning 2bar w/ wideband on this one and then the same on the 03 Z.
Problem is $$$ invested and time frame.
S0 far
HPtuners $500
Extra vehicle $200
Need...
EIO $150
SD tune x 2 = $400
Upgrade to v2 $100 (Missed cutoff by 30 days, even tho I purchased extra vehicle 6 months ago)
So in the end, I'll have over $1350 in this, but at the moment, $700
The second problem is that the EIO isn't available for 2 or 3 weeks and I need to tune the first car before XMas.
I also heard that V2 doesn't have some stuff enabled yet, like maybe EIO
So what should I do? Continue with this or go for something else?
The EFI forum is down, so I can't inquire over there.
Please help.
Bottom line is 2 or 3 BAR SD setup with wideband capability and SOON...

I don't see the point in spending $850+shipping for a situation that can be fixed for $550. Its unfortunate he didn't take advantage of the eio trade in option for $75 when they first came out and now he has to pay full price, but paying an extra $300 wouldnt be his best move considering he still needs to buy a wideband. That money could be well spent on that.

Keith emailed me stating 2 or 3 weeks for the EIO.
I am not sure about USB, but I have been running mine through a USB port all along (cable adaptor to USB)
If I will be using this strictly for SD 2/3 Bar tuning (no MAF), is EFI worth the extra $$$?

I'm going to say something mean ...and I'm going to say something nice....
mean first....
Ok..so you are rebuilding a c5 motor to suit your sport car desire.... how much are you spening on that....I would guess atleast 5k...probably more
IF money is such an issue then you shouldnt be trying to rebuild a c5 motor the way you are doing it now....with some kind of forced induction...cause FI is not cheap....
you are going to spend $200 either way cause you need a wideband.....
now spend $200 for another vehicle liscense(which you can use on any vehicle for that particular year and make...not vin locked)$150 for the EIO, and $100 for the upgrade to 2.0..and then add the 2/3 bar upgrade on top of that...people always bitch and complain when they forget the little things they havent included in their budget cuse they havent truely thought thigs through.....cause humans by nature are impulse buyers
nice thing second
what can we do to help you... there are a bunch of us on here that are very helpful in helping tune vehicles...several of us are moderators on a forum involving tuning(mysef included...specifically HPT's forum)
all of us are willing to help out with just about every kind of issue you could possibly have while tuning...
if teh suppoert isnt enough to stay...then tell us what you need us to help you do...
come to KC...I'll help you turn a few wrenches..and remember..you can always use your HP Tuners to tune other peoples vehicles and earn some of that well soent money back....HPT is not vin locked...so you can tune your friends vehicles and get back some of this well spent money(look at me and foff...we do it all the time)My HPT has paid for itself...the extra liscenses and things that I have added have all been paid for by happy customers

I guess that just about wraps it up as far as the $$$ thing is concerned...
I should have budgeted a bit more in for therapy... (But then I might have to make the decision as to who needs it.. )
How about the technical aspect with respect to SD tuning with FI?
What SD/FI related features (if any) does one have that the other doesn't?

HPtuners
2bar Speed Density enhancement includes:
- 2bar MAP sensor support (calibration capability for 0-5V linear MAP sensors)
- retains full 5 kPa resolution in non-boost regions
- 5 kPa resolution in boost regions
- secondary VE table not used (if applicable)
- new MAP referenced "Boost Enrich" table
- new openloop MAP threshold
- Dual (High and Low Octane) Spark table support
- Speed Density mode only
- VCM Scanner histogram automatically recognises and adjusts for 2bar feature
- new 2bar MAP PID for VCM Scanner
EFI Live
Retains the standard VE table to make the transition from an existing tune to a custom 2-bar tune simple and fast.
Valet Mode Speed and RPM limiters.
Dual Spark map adaptive knock control is fully operational even after MAF sensor has been removed. Includes user control over high/low adaptive spark.
Fuel mixtures can be based entirely on MAP vs RPM with any AFR commanded at any MAP/RPM point.
Timing reduction table when in boost.
Uses standard {SAE.MAP} PID in boost, works with any generic scan tool.
Supports up to 285kPa of boost, almost 3-bar boost.
Im sure theres more stuff but thats just a copy & paste from both of their pages. What about the technical aspect of SD tuning with FI would you like to know? EFI live has a writup on boosted 2/3 bar applications as well as 1 bar. Currently hptuners only has the writup for the 1 bar stuff but most of that can transfer over to the 2/3 bar stuff...i stress most. If theres anything further you'd need though you can ask on the forum & there are usually a bunch of people that can walk you through.

To add to the list of features in the 2/3 bar features EFILive also offers an:
Open Loop ECT multiplier table
Open Loop IAT multiplier table
and a re-worked Open Loop Fuel air table which x and y axises were changed from map and ECT to map and rpm just like the ve table. Along with this change the user is now able to run a "psuedo" lean crusie without breaking any laws since the computer still operates in closed loop when stioch is commanded....
