Default HELP!! how much should this cost?

I was just wondering what the going rate is to have a motor built? I supplied all parts rods, pistons, heads, bearings, gaskets, pump, ect. The guy that did the work suplied main studs. All machine work, balancing and assembly was done by him stock bore so just clean up was needed. He said that the price was 2400 dollars!!! Not to knock any shops but this seems steep for what was done.
I guess my question, is this the going rate to put together motors?
Maybe some shops could chime in.
Thanks guys

The only thing that should be done professionally is the bottom end. The precision that goes into it is amazing. The rest of the motor such as heads, gaskets, covers, etc... is just a matter of putting it on and torquing to spec, something you can do in your garage IMO.

That's a friggin rip off. It should be about $800-$1000 MAX. From my experience a boring/honing/cleanup will run about $250. Then all you're talking is assembly for the bottom end.
