Default Water Temp Gauge

I just installed my water temp guage in the passagner side head, Well after i started it, i didnt see any leaks from under the car but it started smoking alot because the anitfreeze was on the exhaust, my question is could my new sender unit be leaking(i used teflon paste and the adapter is right up against the head and the sender unit is alittle mroe than hand tight) and going on the exhaust or could it just be antifreeze from me draining it. I would think it would leak like crazy if the sender was leaking. Im just really paranoid and dont want to run it long if its leaking alot of antifreeze out of the head. Thanks for your help!

Well, first of all, check to see if it's actually leaking from there. If so, I wouldn't be surprised if it was an autometer b/c those taps break very often.
