My Camaro slaps a little when started cold, pretty loud actually, and slaps for about 10-15 seconds on warm restarts. When it's fully warm it runs flawlessly though.

my 01 doesnt do it.
I think they made some changes to the skirt at some point, but I may just be getting confused with the ls6 pistons...

Never heard my 01 do it, EVER.

My 02 does it a lil after luke warm restarts, or after it has been idling for a min or so while cold, but it isn't very loud.

My 00 Z-71 slaps pretty loud at times in the cold weather. It's all sparatic though, never really know when it will occur, or how loud it will be.

All I care about is that the truck uses ZERO oil on 6k+ oil intervals with Mobil 1, runs awesome! The car uses very lil, not enough to get to the add between changes, and the dyno numbers and track times stock speak for themselves

Not sure if my '02 has piston slap or valvetrain noise. I bought the car at 22,500 miles didn't notice anything.
First oil change at 25,000 it started. I used Mobile one 5w30, 10w30, Havoline 5w30, 10w30.
The only thing that made it a little quieter was 10w30 Castrol syntec with a quart of 10w40.

At 25,000 miles the dealer changed the lifters and checked the oil pump o-ring, replaced the belts and tesioners because they said they made the noise sometimes.

Nothing helped, the lifters were quiet for like a day or two, they are an "improved design",, so I bring it back for the same noise and all of a sudden this same noise is considered normal.
They did "say" they extended my engine warranty 68,000 miles.

My noise is there at all temperatures, seems to be when it idles it makes the noise, speed it up it goes away, back to idle it slowly comes back. Same noise cold, same noise after a 3 hour drive. Heres an old sound clip of it.

Wow, thats what piston slap sounds like? Sounds more like something is lose in there. Ever taken off the valve covers and see what you find? Maybe a bent pushrod...but that sounds like something rolling around...

Dealer says it's normal. The car was not beat on when I got it, I've beat on it and it doesn't seem to have gotten worse.
I've taken the valve covers and rockers off and took the pushrods out only to find nothing wrong.
It runs great other wise.
I got a 13.2 1/4 mile time out of it bone stock on the original tires and a little over 3500 pounds race weight.
Thats one 13.2 the rest were 13.6.

It does have the LS6 block not that it matters.
The only thing I've noticed is in manuals it says the later model engines have pistons with coated skirts

My 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer (boring version, not an Evo) slaps very noticeably for about 20 seconds on every cold start.

FWIW I use Mobil1 5w-40 and he uses Mobil1 10w-30

after purchasing my car with 45k on it i hadn't noticed any piston slap. after a couple oil changes and a LOT of rev limiter, for whatever reason, it now has minimal piston slap on every cold startup, regardless of the temperature, but goes away quickly.

cop car's b4c sounds like a 96 cummins when he starts it up cold and registers like 4.5 on the richter scale.
