Default Cali street legal exhaust

What would be the best combiantion for a street legal exhaust in Cali? For this longtubes are out of the question. I was thinking some Hooker or JBA shorties, Carsound 43000 series 3in in/out cats, 3in tubing through hopefully a GMMG. Or, if I decide to go with duals, 2.5in tubing, 3in X-pipe, 3in Sweet Thunders, over-axle all the way back. What would you guys recommend?

Longtubes are not of the question.

I run LT's.

I just swap them for the stock **** everytime I get tested...for I used to atleast I got to find someone to pay off now that I going with H/C.

I would just throw on a cutout and be done with it personally. Thats if LT's were out of the question.

I wish I could put Longtubes, but I saw a news report that If a police officer pulls you over and checks for any Illegal mods, they can impound your car. Smog test are no worry for me.

I saw it on a couple months ago on Univision (channel in spanish). Supposly, cops are tired of "ricers" killing themselves and innocent casualties by removing or adding components that make theif car unsafe to drive or illegal for road use.

It is for CA.

Actually, I'm shocked that it's still legal to own a car in CA.

Cumbias, Why don,t you use the stock manifolds, leave the stock cats. in their stock location and run both 2.5 inch pipes side by side down the passengers side of the car, go over the axle, then through round straight through, noise cancelling mufflers (one on each side of the rear tub) and out the rear from beneath the bumper in the stock location? That way your car would street legal in all 50 states. That is what I did and I picked up 5 percent in horse power (About 15 horse) over that stupid "Y" pipe. The sound is great and just loud enough, but not so loud as to arouse the police or highway patrol when we meet or pass on the street or highway. That way you will have it all. True duals, straight through design, ground clearance far better then with that stupid "Y" pipe, great sound, better fuel milage and streel legal everywhere. What else could you ask for?

All you'd be able to do is run some slightly bigger pipes and shorties... you must have OEM cats in their stock location for it to stay street legal in CA.

What if the cats go out? You can replace them with aftermarket can't you, I ask because mine are going out for the second time (CEL "cat effic. code", again). If not i'll be taking it to chevy for the free warranty ones again. How much would it cost to go the true-dual route that JEB is running?

I thought about keeping the stock manifolds and cats like yours. The reason I consider shorties and new Cats are to run an exhaust that will complement an LS6 Intake better than stock.
The main reason that I consider keeping the Y-Pipe is to not face problems in installation. I don't want to mod my suspension in any way that would make it less reliable.

This keeps comming up, so I'll mention it again....True duals are NOT legal in California believe it or not. If you are going to all the work of doing TD's that aren't legal, you might as well do longtubes also.

Even if the hook up right after the cats, say about 1in after. This leaves the cats untouched right?

I always thought if you kept the stock cat location that it was all good, but apparently you also need to keep the stock exhaust configuration also.

Check VHP/Bassani TD's on their site. I think they have a set up for stock manifolds. I've seen a thread or 2 with some pretty good pics.
