Default best cam for street car?

i want to make as much as possible (like everybody else) while retaining my street manners. car is a daily driver and it sees prob 200-250 miles per week. id like to make 400+ to the wheels but if its not attainable its not. cam only, full bolt ons. (my sig is out of date) im in fl. so cold weather isnt an issue and neither is emissions. a lot of people tell me a 224 cam but it seems like they leave a lot more to be had. ive been really looking into the cheater cam from thunder but dont know if it would make the power i want. and not sure if a cam like the fm 13 would do what im looking for. (street manners) this will be my xmas gift so i need to know very very soon. thanx for all the opinions in advance!

The F13 is VERY streetable as well as a few of the cams from TSP, Thunder, MTI, etc.. You already have the 4.10 gear so a bigger sized cam shouldn't be a problem for daily driving around town.. F13, TSP 233/239R2, TSP Torquer 2, etc etc..

Do a thorough search.. This topic has been brought up thousands of times..

i keep hearing how the f13 is noisy and the thunder cams are quieter because the fast ramp rates. i need all the advice i can get. im a newbie with cams. i also should note the car only has 12k on it and is about to be seeing a lot more and i want it reliable and somewhat quiet. (i know a cam will most likely add noise)

do you have longtube headers? i would do headers before i throw in a cam. ive done some searching also, but i would go with a 224 cam. i know alot of people say go bigger, but if its for the daily driving street the 224 cam is the perfect all around cam. you can never go wrong with the 224. ive seen cam only 224 cams with stock heads put down better #'s than guys with huge cams.

If you truly want good street manners go with the 224. The power under the curve is what you want. It may not make the "peak" numbers to brag about but you won't have to "drive it like you stole it" to feel the difference.

Streetable is only what you let yourself decide as far as tolerance.

imvery picky about my car so my tolerances are mild. but i also realize that sacrifices have to be made to the hp god. my buddy had a 224 cam and i was never really impressed with how it ran. it was fast 12.0@114 but i expected more i guess. plus it idled choppy as hell. what 224 cam would u recommend for max effort?

im still leaning towards the f13 until someone gives me a good alternative. post up!!

The f13 or torquer 2 would both fit the bill. Both are very streetable and will put up the numbers you're looking for.

I have the 224/224 .563 114lsa cam, headers and LS6 heads with crane dualspring kit.

Its very civilizied but in hindsight I should have gone to a larger cam.

I chose the 224/224 .563 114lsa cam because it would pass the sniffer test. Of course the state I live in after the installation went to a pcm test.

FWIW..I'd recommend the 250 dollar two piece timing chain cover so in case later on you want to change cams again...The labor costs are a lot less.

Good luck in your decision.

224/224 .563 114lsa and you barely could tell its got a cam in it ..its so civilized. (about 32extra rwhp)

2001 ZO6 TTP 224/224 114lsa Cam Pkg 396rwhp 380 rwtq, dual crane valvesprings, Halltech Tunnel Ram, FLP headers, ASP 25% Pully, 3.73 Getrag Rear,2004 Z06 shocks,Shaner S2 TB,Hurst

ok futral thinks the f13 might be too much beings i dont want to shift above 6500-6600. so back to the drawing board. and after a lot of research i dont think the 224 is going to give me the power i want. i need to be able to run with an 01 z06 with headers and an intake. damn pride!

i was in the exact same boat as you.....the deciding factor for me with the f13 was i didnt want to shift at the 6700 to get the most out of the cam.....i wanted a little more than the tr224 too.....i ended up going with a f4...226/226 .575/.575 112lsa +4..... i think it might not be much than a tr224 but a little....i think you might something around these specs too

If I hadn't cared about pollution? I'd have gone with a G3X5 cam from LG or something similiar.

Comp 921 dual springs and you'd be all set.

Thats what I would have done if emissions weren't a concern.

The 224/224 114lsa is so civilized you really want more than 400rwhp.

JMO but whatever you decide put that two piece timing chain cover in so labor on replacing the cam later on is much less..

If I had done that? I'd have a new cam in the car ..

224/224 114lsa is kinda tame after awhile.

Still cool but powers addicting...

HTH.

well i personally wouldnt mind shifting higher but im on a stock bottom end/ heads and have no plans on changing. plus its a 99 and i have been told the bottom ends are weaker than the later. naybe ill go with the f11 or f12. i just dont want to put all this time and money and wish i had gone bigger. the more i research this issue the more it looks like im asking too much. i have til tomorrow to make up my mind. too many people are soso on the 224 so i think thats out. anyone making good power/ times with the f11? is it much of a downgrade from the f13?
